Not only have I never bought anything from this creep, but the link in the email leads to a bunch of scrambled HTML and various other code. It may be a accident, but this is just far too much to be taken lightly. Should I report him?

    Careful with phishing e-mails...

It's never recommended to click on links on e-mails. Just go to the normal ebay website and check if it's a real e-mail or phishing like i said...

Somethings really weird since when I searched the guy up (as I'm sure you did) I got some German guy selling LEDs. See.

So, hmm, I guess you should contact someone or email them asking for proof or something. And yeah that's a good point from Johnny, does the respond link go offsite?

Yeah, it goes to some site off ebay with a bunch of messed up HTML code and ebay links. If I had to guess, its one of two things:

    A. The link is spyware/adware/a virus

    B. The link is a ploy for me to log in and enter my account info so he can steal it and do whatever with it.

Fortunatly, my computer is backed up and has various anti-spyware/virus programs on it, so it should be fine. Either way, I have a strong feeling I should report him.

Even then, this guy is a bit odd. I got fake ebay emails in the past, and they were usually just badly done imitators. This guy actualy had his ebay name on there and made a obvious threat. Granted, it could be someone looking for revenge against the guy, but I do find it odd that all he sells is LED lights.

Fake. Ebay addresses you by your account name, not as "Dear ebay member".

It might be the guy's account has been hacked, or they put his member name in the phishing email to make it look more authentic. He probably has nothing to do with it.

I doubt they hacked into the guys account. if they did, they just have a victim that they can take advantage of rather than use the name to send out phishing emails.

the rating in the email does not match up with the user (is current ebay rating is many times higher).

I think with how great the english is, the phishing email did not originate in the usa & also the account was just tagged on because of it's high rating.

I get them all the time and I just delete them. You can spot them a mile off. If anything gets seriously bad, I'm sure Ebay will phone or write to you in a letter.

I ignore 95% of Ebay emails.
