    image.jpg image.jpg Hi All,

A few months ago I bought a copy of Super Spike V'Ball for the NES off eBay. Last night I finally got around to opening it up to clean it and found this thing. I've never seen a board like this. What is it? Where are the normal chips? What the hell is going on here? I can't imagine that it's not a legit cart, I mean, it's Super Spike V'ball not Little Samson. Anyway, thanks in advance!

The chips are under that black goop... it's called glob-top. Not sure if Nintendo ever used it in their cartridges as it's usually used in low-end electronics and often in bootlegs, but I'm sure someone else will chime in with more info than that.

Strange that the board is branded Nintendo on the back. I'll have to look into this. I can't imagine that anyone would make a bootleg of SSVB, I mean, even now it only costs a couple bucks.

I'm no expert but I do know they used this method it in some carts, as confirmed by ASSEMbler in the link.

The most famous us was probably in the Starwing Competition Cart!!!

Namco used globtops in many of their Japanese Mega Drive games! It's true.

Early Starfox carts are globtops as well, first production run I think.
