Lastly, I've seen many people that have got Dreamcast JP Karaokes for around 500円-2000円. Shouldn't those cost something around 8000円? Aren't they rare / obscure LE hardware?

Might have to do with the fact the service has been tooken down. Plus the item itself wasn't hard to find when it came out.

Yep, these days the system is nothing more than a fancy paper weight :(

Was this ever a collectible? They were cheap when they came out, and easy to get.

Not a collectible item so much as a potential hacking platform. Over at GamesX we were thinking that you could get direct access to the bus and the optical drive lines. At very least, the Karaoke unit gave you a big plastic case in which you could attempt to house a homebrew broadband adapter. As far as I know, none of those planned hacks ever came to fruition. I'd still like to have one, just to say that I do.

If it would have allowed you to use your own cd+g disc(karaoke cd's) I think it might have had more value as a compact karaoke machine.

btw, is the karaoke kit compatible with a PAL Dreamcast? I use the DC-X to boot NTSC software.

Yes, but be mindful of the voltages. Don't loop the power through the attachment into the Dreamcast. Run your regular power cord into the Dreamcast and then run power into the Karaoke attachment through a step down transformer.

Or put a us/jp powerunit inside of the PAL dreamcast, and then connect the whole package to a stepdown. (thats how I got my setup)
