    Hi people.

Like many of you I try to keep a computer record of what all games are in my collection. Up until today I had been using Game Collector to do this. Well for some reason after a fresh format I reinstalled and it put the program on my second hard drive (no idea why) but thats where the backup was and it overwrote all my crap.

I had my XSL templates in there, my modified EXE file and everything it destroyed it all.

So now I need a new program to keep track of my collection. I would prefer something simple that I can make some colums with kinda like a spreadsheet or something. I have MS office which has Excel but I dont know much about it and dont really care to learn it again as I hated the program in school.

So what is a EASY to use program that can keep track of simple things like platform, value, condition, ect...

I would also like to be able to search out entires and organize them by criteria if thats possable. Please let me know and thanks!

    ~Mike

I originally wrote a database in BASIC to keep track of my games but now all my games (are mostly) on Filemaker, but that might be excessive for a games collection... I also use Smartlist on the Palm so I can take it out and about with me.

I used Video Game Rebirth to keep track of all my games. They have an enormous database and it is very detailed. I would recommend that.

Why not use some kind of online database like vgrebirth? Not every game is listed but you can contribute.

Edit: just as graciano said. :)

Other than that any spreadsheet program like Excel or OpenOffice Calc will do the job. If you only use the basic functions there really is not much to learn. Write your entries and save the file.

Hey Jamtex, I have Filemaker Pro, would that work well? I really dont care much for online databases which is why I dont use them, just never really set well with me. Probably because the data would be on their servers.

Filemaker pro works like a dream, you just need to design a template for it with some work you can get nice pop up lists of consoles, publishers, etc and link in pictures. I would offer mine, but it's a mess and uses too many acroynms and tlas.

Filemaker is very powerful so you can search for terms as you see fit, what all the 2D shooters made between 1992 and 1997 that had the letter a in them? Not a problem. (As long as you enter decent data in).

After studying accounts, I m considering to apply "double-entry" systems to all my databases, maybe games one day.

I also use excel, but would like something better, but simple just like it.

Something that i could take with me on a pendrive, without having to find a computer with excel or any other program to open.

If you don't mind online databases, MobyGames allows you to keep track of your collection. I don't know how in-depth you wanted it to be, though.

I use the My Collection feature on Ign's website. It's pretty complete and I haven't had many problems finding a game I on their list.

I honestly don't like online databases.

My excel file is pretty simple, but effective.

    PS1 NTSC|U/C , PS1 NTSC|J ,... Wish list, ...

Name of the game, developer , publisher ,condition, case, manual, disc

But i wanted to improve it, or have a cool small app for it. Something like EssentialPim.

Game Collector seems cool, but too expensive.

This is what I use too, I think this is the best online based one.
