2008 seems to be the year of the retro Revival. So far we have annouced and coming or already out Mega Man 9 Street Fighter IV Super Street Fighter II X HD Remix Boinic Commando Rearmed Sonic Unleashed (which seems to be sonic going back to his roots on a console) Ninja Gaiden II Commando 3 1942 (whatever the subtitle is) Thunder Force VI And who knows what's next at E3. But it seems assuming it never left. that Old School is making a huge comeback in 2008. Enough to make me look at all the old games made new and ask....what year is this again?
Year of the remakes, ports, and sequels. Having said that, I'm interested in seeing the impact Megaman9, with its classic 8-bit tech, could have on industry buissnes models should it ultimately become successful. Sonic I'd like to see be any good this time, but in the videos it seems to be focusing too much on speed resulting in a linear on-rails experience.
The only way I see Mega man 9 being a failure is if people are apprehensive about it being an 8 bit throw back. I've been over it before. I'll enjoy sonic unleashed I got some enjoyment out of the last one which everyone hated. I really like the on rails parts in Sonic Next Gen and that city level in the future is probably one of my favorite bits of 3d platforming ever.
That too Jamtex. I view it the same way. Arcade SF IV doesn't wow me. Missing too many key people. BUT if the home version has everyone from SSFII plus Dan and a few alpha people and III characters then I'm sold. I don't think anybody Begged Capcom to make SF IV with the entire II cast.. and 5 new characters don't really cut it.
I just saw the Sonic Unleashed video and it looks incredibly intriguing... I guess we'll wait to see. That draw distance would make any Sega Saturn cry. I don't mind throwbacks to old nostalgic franchises as long as their good. Game companies keep getting caught in a bad place between trying to stick to the perfected formula and trying to add to many innovations that don't work.
It's good and bad. Was playing Commando 3 : Wolf of the Battlefield the other day. I love Commando 1 + Merc, has that "I got just a little further" gameplay that I love and keep going back for. They've wacked it with an easy stick! It's designed for the "I don't want to get killed in games ever" crowd. It's awful. Thank god I have Capcom classics on my Saturn. Boom, straight through the demo at "Insane Suicide Difficulty". I ain't that good at playing games either, but suicide difficulty is "I can dodge bullets". You just get bored. But I live in hope for Bionic Commando Rearmed.
Is what happens when everybody goes nostalgic for 2 and a half years. The truth and nothing but the truth... Again, everybody said Rush was great, now thats all we're getting. Whats with all the penis comments? first Banjo now this, are you "experimenting"?
