You mean remove some of the components near the jack? I could try that, assuming it doesn't break the console!

I'm using a plasma, picture is perfect with all my other retro consoles.

show how much jailbars you've got there. I want to compare it with my recent av mod job. Also, do separate white pixels on black background (or any other contrasting single pixels) look really torn to you?

If I hook up my av famicom or regular modded famicom to my flat screen I will have jail bars but on my crt it looks normal.

And no you will not break your fami, those parts are for the rf which is already disabled since you did the av mod.

Here's an example of the jailbars, they seem to stand out the most on green:

For white on black, best I can come up with is the Famicom Disk System menu:

Do you get the same type of jailbars on your flat screen that I'm getting? Do you have trouble with any other systems on the same TV?

That's good about the RF components, I literally hacksawed the RF connector out, so there's certainly no loss if components related to it were removed :p

Nah, haven't owned a CRT in years, and all my friends and relatives also went LCD/plasma years ago.

Is there anything you can suggest to help remove the jailbars? They're not as bad as some photos I've seen, but they're still there.

How does it look when playing super mario, also your last bet is to get some copper tape for those jail bars.

I don't know. I think I've got a copy of SMB for the FDS (why would they re-release this game for FDS?), but I need to get the system itself working again.

Yeah, I was thinking the copper tape might be my best choice, thanks!

For what it's worth, I didn't use the existing transistor — I used a new one on a breadboard.
Looking at your pictures, it seems you've lifted Pin 21, but then you've basically wired it back on the board, which negates many of the benefits!

Well kinda. I lifted the pin, and wired it directly to the transistor. Are you getting a better picture than me?

I've got the FDS working, and that is indeed a copy of Super Mario Bros I have, so here's a photo:

I put a 220uf cap between VCC and the collector on my PNP to remove the jailbars on my famicom...

You mean there's another place to solder in a capacitor to help with the jailbars aside from PPU pins 20 and 22? The console will soon be more capacitor than console! :p Which legs of the PNP transistor are VCC and collector?

I'm not sure my problem with video is caused by my modding, but my famicom isn't displaying the image properly. I've got 3 issues:
    - jailbars
    - very torn single pixels
    - a little skewed image on the top.
some examples are in this gallery: http://imgur.com/a/w6rjW

I only use two caps and they are in the amp circuit, VCC is your +5v from the mobo, the collector is the leg on your PNP that you solder to GND. Obviously the value of the resistors may depend on the type of tv you own but generally should be fine.
