I was randomly in a KBToys in the mall and spotted this: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3509/0119081933fm5.jpg http://www.imagehosting.gr/upload4/out.php/i63677_0119081933a.jpg Anybody have any clue as to whats in it. Theres no chance in hell that I'd buy one for 40 bucks...but it would be interesting to know if it was actual gamegearesque hardware. If it is, it might be a hoot for somebody to hack. Edit: Sigh, I should search more first...found it by a different name. Still haven't seen any hacks of it yet, though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95gIvyauSvU&feature=related
This is the little Playpal unit that's rebranded as a Tectoy in Brazil, right? Got sold under the Coleco brand in Target and on Amazon, if I'm not mistaken. There's supposed to be a version out based on Megadrive/Genesis hardware, although it's anybody's guess if you'll see that in the United States. This is a pretty generic SMS-on-a-chip design, something that's been kicked around various licensees. Not too different from the Radica units, and it might even be possible to isolate the ROM chip and attach a cart port. I'd have to get one to confirm, of course.
Is this actually GG hardware or just some SMS ports of GG games? If it really was GG hardware it'd be really intriguing.
What's with the Sonic & Knuckles screen on the packaging? Looks like it just used almost the same design as that portable Sega Megadrive by TecToy and AtGames. Edit: Oh, that is made by AtGames, so that explains it.
I don't think the Z80 is the best CPU for abstraction layers, lacking any form of memory protection or protected mode and being generally like 30 years old Unless they stuck in a Z8000, that'd be awesome
I know, I was just thinking what if they had released something like this during 98 when the GBC was released. After all, smaller GG with backlite and better battery life would've been better than nintendo's ofering. That or a new & improved Nomad...
Yeah, but a PSP is technically better than a DS but we all know the story there. Nintendo just know how to market like no other  Yakumo
Honestly that isnt a problem, but the fact that at the time it was pokemon fever all over the world, and every kid was getting a GBC to play those games, above anything else available.
DO NOT BY THAT! My friend has one it's the crappiest thing evar! It's not backlit so there's no brightness settings. You seriously can't see a thing! It's awful. I didn't even think it was turned on, that's how bad the screen is. It's worse than a GBA no joke.
