Hey guys! With the 360 being superseded by the Xbox one for a awhile now, I was wondering if there's been any interesting developements in the world of 360 modding. Last I checked, if you wanted region free, you needed to either install a modchip or flash the disk drive's firmware, both of which still carry a risk of having your system banned from Xbox live. Is this still the case today? Well, Xbox live support for the 360 will probably only be around for a few years more, but in the meantime it'd be nice to be able to still use it safely in comparison, the wii got some really effective and simple to install soft mods at the end of its life, you'd think with the 360 being even more PC-like there would totally be something like that for it now.
PPC != x86_64 But yes you can go online with one of the many spoofing services, there are even free ones available. The risks are you can still be banned but if you keep it clean then you should be fine. Oh and beware of KV stealers.
About xbox live on hacked consoles : If you have JTAG or RGH there is a thing called XBLSE. You can take your hacked console online and even cheat. I haven't tried it, but from many responses, I've heard that it works well ( when the servers are not down). But those who use it just for cheating are ruining online for everyone.
As someone who has never owned an Xbox 360 (my brother has always owned one, so I've just used that), I'm looking to buy one soon (so it'll be one of the latest models), and this interests me, too. A foolproof way to play games region-free without getting banned would be nice. From what I've read here, and what I've read elsewhere (especially a few years ago), I assume that there is no method, at least with the newer models of 360, that is guaranteed to let you play imports (I don't care about piracy) whilst avoiding a ban from Xbox Live. If that is indeed the case, that's really disappointing. If not... oh man, I'd love to know. All the methods mentioned so far in this thread (apart from those for a JTAG console, anyway, since those seem to be hacker-friendly) don't seem to be foolproof, though (unless I'm wrong).
" A foolproof way to play region-free games without getting banned would be nice. Not sure why you would get a ban?
I like to play original games, I would also like to be able to play region locked games without too much hassle. And without having to burn hacked ( region unlocked ) games.
You would need a JTAG/RGH to play region locked games from different region to your own.. funny thing with jtag is i could play a region locked NTSC/U disc on my PAL jtag, but not copy to HDD from said disc.. not tried it recently tho so it might have been fixed with recent updates.
360 doesn't have much life left anyway, it's probably best just to flash the drive. I believe region free works that way..
It should iirc but yea Xbox 360 has maybe a few years left till MS kills it off completely so JTAG/RGH is the way to go IMHO.
Indeed. Region free can only be obtained via RGH/JTAG; even if it doesn't make region free you can edit the XEX. Possibly an ODDE but I do not think they allow RF playback.
I know for a fact that only older consoles (and even then, not ALL models of the fatass Xbox 360) can be JTAGed, but I'm not familiar with RGH. I'm going to assume that if I buy a 360 new now, I won't be playing games region-free any time soon. I'm curious to know why a flashed drive wouldn't get around the region-locking, though. I'm not familiar at all with how the Xbox 360 handles region-locking, so I can only guess. Use the quote button next time. Anyway, I corrected what I meant. I was meant to say "play games region-free". Got the words in the wrong place. Problem with that is that there are actual region-free Xbox 360 games (normally the (bilingual) Chinese ones). Still, I thought it was kind of a given, considering the thread topic, but I realise the way I worded that was poor and confusing.
