hi guys having looked at a few xboxes i got one i bought that had been soft modded but its got something extra attached to the motherboard unlike the other few i have, is this normal or what is it, it does just unplug direct from the motherboard too.. .. is this normal...!!!
Nope your xbox has been hard modded with the Aladdin chip and I'm sure they are soldered in so don't be tempted to pull at it. im sure somebody will chime in to give more solid info as there are many different chips for the xbox and they have there pros and cons
well ive taken the motherboard out as im using the crystal case for a new pc build, the bit in the picture pops on and off easily and since taking out the motherboard i can now see underneath some tiny little wires that have been soldered on... ive wrapped the mother board up at the mo, i guess it might be useful to someone in the future maybe
Aladdin EX. Older modchip design. Looks like it has a female pin header since you say it pops off easily. Might be worth around $20 or so. Hard to say. The wire you mentioned is going to the D0 point on the Xbox PCB and that is used to deactivate the TSOP so the console boots from the BIOS on the chip instead of the BIOS on the TSOP. If it has more wires then they will be either for status LED connection or for power button connections. Hard to say without more pictures of everything.
I would be interested to see a full parts and build pics with the PC parts inside as I have always wanted to do that
here is the youtube link to the one i will do. only difference is im doing it in a crystal xbox case and im using a slightly different motherboard.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzxVpyUrPwU
sorry what do you mean about swapping, just taking the board out at the moment so i can use the case for my pc mod, ive wrapped all the bits up for the moment. i guess i can just chuck it all back into another case when i need to.
Basically what I mean is; not all motherboards will fit in another XBOX case but this won't matter if you're doing a special project. Just some think a XBOX motherboard will go in another XBOX case, it doesn't work that well. Versions have different stand-offs and possibly you can damage the regulator.
