I'm thinking about shaping up, abandoning hobby dreams about robots and stuff and devoting myself to getting a job in Japan and moving there. What's currently trending, if anybody has any clue? I'm a fast learner, got a masters degree in automation and robotics, I'm a good low level programmer, I can do embedded hardware and software. I know there are possibilities, but it's not like they're so easy to come through. I want to specialise myself in one thing (rather than dipping my toes in everything I've come across so far), and land a job in Japan. Is there anybody here that works in the IT sector in Japan and could give me some advice?
Best advice is to somehow get over there and apply. It will be almost impossible for you to get at job outside of Japan. Save up enough money to live for 3 months (Yen is really weak now... but so is the Euro...), and start looking once you get there. The stronger your Japanese, the better. If you can pass JLPT 2 you're gold. Shou probably knows more than me, but putting on a detective hat might be better. I actually have a friend that works in that sector. I'll drop him a line. Nice guy - at the very least he can give you some pointers. He does C++, I believe on embedded systems.
Currently there is no way for me to go to Japan and apply and I am far from N2 - but I will greatly appreciate any advice from your friend! Thanks GP, you never fail
I got a job from London in Tokyo, visa sponsored and moved. Do not speak Japanese and work in web dev. Its difficult but possible.
