hi , a few weeks ago , i finally found and bought a saturn . to know wich game i must add to my collection , i downloaded somes sega pc demo on my pc. i downloaded virtua fighter 2 , i never loved like a crazy the fighting game genre , but found , at my surprise an amazing game , with great sound , speed , control .... i was amazed by this demo! so i search everywere to find virtua fighter on my saturn , and ffound it this morning. i played it, but it wasn't like the pc version , it was worst. the sound is really bad , some catrige games makes better sounds . the control doesn't respond . the music is too loud . and the overall game is slow. :smt017 im i the only one to think that? is it because of the high resolution? if not , why? can i find something to change this? codes , mods , everything ....? :smt009 that's bad..... :smt022
Thats because, when converting the Saturn Game for the PC, they cleaned up the graphics and sound, and improved other problems with the games. It's the same with Sonic R, Project Zero, Resident Evil, Panzer Dragoon, etc etc.
oh, so it was released before virtua fighter 2 ? :smt017 which virtua fighter is the best by the way? thx for the info all. :smt024
Virtua Fighter 2 on the Saturn is very good indeed. True that the sound isn't too hot due to memory restraints but as far as looks go it runs in the Saturn's highest resolution at 30fps. The controls are also spot on. You're not running an import copy on a PAL Saturn are you? That would explain many problems. Yakumo
its no an import.. i played 2 or 3 hours with it and seem to enjoy it a bit more. but the pc version is better.
You should've bought it when it came out. VF2 was a technical feat indeed. Yeah ,the sound was weak, but the graphics were top-notch... Also, VF series is not considered a "crazy" fighting series... probably why it sells for shit in the US/UK.
The resolution in VF2 is amazing for the Saturn! Is it the only game running at Saturn's highest resolution, or there are others? And I thought VF2 on Saturn is 60fps, you sure is 30fps Yakumo? Man, if AM2 and Yu Suzuki were given more time...Yu himself said that the Saturn port could be closer to the arcade game (Shun's stage comes to mind...from screen shots during the game's development, it was going to be on a floating platform just like the arcade...you could see a pic of that from the package of the very first release of the Saturn hardware in the US), but to make the Christmas deadline, the time constraint hurts the final Saturn product. And if you like VF2 on Saturn, you should also check out Dead or Alive (only Japanese version exists for the Saturn). Another high res and high framerate game, but it falls under the "crazy fighting" genre. P.S. Reading the back of the Saturn VF2 box, it says "Thoroughly enhanced realistic animation of each character, from the extraordinary arcade hit with double the resolution and double the speed!" I don't think AM2 can double the arcade version on the Saturn, but I think that quote is referring to VF1 Saturn/arcade instead.
Yeah VF2 is amazing on Saturn, there are other games that use hi res mode, some are Winter Heat, Athlete Kings, Anarchy In The Nippon & All Star Japan Wrestling.
Virtua Fighter 2 The backgrounds were definitely compromised for VF2, though at least with the later Fighters Megamix AM2 managed to re-introduce the walls from Wolf's stage and a few effects left out of Fighting Vipers, even if they were reduced to only basic sprite-scaling showcases instead of their original polygonal features. It was great to see the desert arena from VF3 as well, and I wouldn't have minded if the actual conversion looked like that - for me it's all about the gameplay, which is one aspect that AM2 rarely neglects! Another game to utlise the system's high resolution was Saturn Bomberman, if I remember correctly. Also, didn't D X-HIRD use this display mode as well? I know for definite that Battle Arena Toshinden Ultimate Revenge Attack did, but sadly great visuals don't always make a god game, which probably explains why Takara haven't made a new update in that particular series for quite a while...
Re: Virtua Fighter 2 Shun Di's bridge in his level was left out because it slowed the frame rate down if i remember correctly. Though im sure they could have got an arcade perfect game out of the saturn if they had more time as well as the new development tools. Virtua Fighter 2 had to be out in time as sony were hurting sega badly and so there was no time to hold back and improve they had to release it to counter the PSX games.
