    Poll time!

I'm defining Beat-Em-Up purely as a Street Fighter / King Of Fighters style game here. So I'm sure there'll be lots of Capcom and SNK fans in here!

As you can only have 10 options, I decided on the "classic" era. As great as they were, I excluded the early Ataris, Colecovision etc. and there are some others missing too. Sorry for that! I thought this was probably the best way to balance them, though.

Please vote for the console you think had the most decent Beat-Em-Ups, not just because of one game! If you genuinely feel another console deserves to be voted for, feel free to say. And in the case of multiple systems listed, feel free to state which you're voting for!

I think this speaks for itself... almost all Street Fighter games before SFIII are available on Saturn, often very good ports due to the RAM cart and not to mention the superb pad! :-D

Bah, fighters REQUIRE a stick ;)
My favourite fighter is on the MD (Yu Yu Hakusho Makyotohissen), but I'm gonna have to go with saturn to, for the same reasons as AntiPasta presented above.

I thought this was about real beam-em-ups like Final Fight, Most of the Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari series, the TMNT games etc. For what you asked its really a fighter and I'll choose the neo-geo crowd because it has all these nice fighters. By my "beat-em-up" I'd chose the snes because it has a couple beat-em-ups and they are all good.

Indeed, thanks. I thought the phpbb forum was a bit of a mess and that kind of put me off.

This one even beats the ol' EZboard forum :)

Gamergary, that's exactly why I distinguished - so people didn't think I meant Double Dragon etc. ;) I forgot to make a category for them, oops!!

And Yeah, I guess you could be right... but hey it was late and I was tired!

Again, SNES vs. Saturn for me. I seemed to do better on Saturn games, though :D Oh, of course this is THE genre for the Neo Geo, too! I just always preferred the 6 button approach.

Wish arcade systems were listed so I could vote CPS2... I wanna vote Saturn but Saturn doesn't have MVC(2)... I don't know why NES / GB are even listed, the only legit games I can think of are Yie Ar Kung Fu, Moero Judo Masters, and one obscure J game I can't remember the name of... and for Gameboy, lameo Takara ports of Toshinden and Samurai Spirits and shit Killer Instinct, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, King of Fighters... PCE is also a joke at fighters with like 5 titles...

Neo geo... I mean, that's all the system had was beat em up fighting

  13. I'm going with the NES, as in my opinion, it had a ton of beat-em-up games like the aforementioned Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and 3 (don't consider the first to be much of a beat-em-up), the Double Dragon series, River City Ransom, Bad Dudes, and a whole slew more.

Now if it's fighting games you want, the Saturn is the undisputed king, but the title says beat-em-ups, so...

Kyuusaku, the NES is listed because it is the same poll for each category... to make it fair. I know it won't count for some things (3D Adventure on NES??), but that just evens things out.

GSL, as I said before, it was nearly 4am and I was very tired! OK yeah I meant to put this as fighters and another category for double dragon et al, but I forgot. However, I did distinguish in the post that accompanies the poll that this is for Street Fighter-type games ;)

Snes all the way.... The more powerful systems like Playstation/Saturn had better graphics, but for the most part all the concepts for thier fighting games originated on Snes.

Compare Snes versions of Neo Geo fighting games to the arcade counterpart, while they don't look or sound as good, they almost play as good.

The exception in my opinion being Samuri Showdown I & II, two of the best fighting games ever made.
