Yes, YET another poll! OK, First Person Shooter. We're talking Doom here! Yeah, a game where you see things from the character's point of view, and go around with guns shooting things! WOOHOO! I know that kinda rules out some of the earlier consoles, but I'm leaving the polls all with the same options. As you can only have 10 options, I decided on the "classic" era. As great as they were, I excluded the early Ataris, Colecovision etc. and there are some others missing too. Sorry for that! I thought this was probably the best way to balance them, though. Please vote for the console you think had the most decent FPS games, not just because of one game! If you genuinely feel another console deserves to be voted for, feel free to say. And in the case of multiple systems listed, feel free to state which you're voting for!
Yeah, much like the RTS one, the PC is pretty much the only system that got FPS originals. All I know of on consoles are ports of Doom and Quake, and of course the unreleased DC Half-Life. And the DC isn't even there!
PC has the most, but I'm not being an ass so I voted N64 because of Goldeneye. And I think you can take "classics", NES, PCE, SMS+GG and Neo Geo off the list because 1. they don't have the power to do a proper FPS 2. None were ever made
LOL, PC isn't a console And all the consoles are left on the list to keep it fair across the board of polls - some consoles don't stand a chance in some categories. 3D Adventure on Neo Geo? hehe. Doom was ported to a lot of consoles. Wolfenstein was to some (unfortunately there was no room for Jag... AVP was superb too). Yeah, GoldenEye and Perfect Dark are good examples. What should we count Resident Evil, Tenchu, Tomb Raider under? I guess they are more 3D Adventure than FPS, really. After all, you see the character, and it isn't JUST shooting! By the way, there were some first person perspective games on the NES, but most were RPGs. I can't help thinking one was almost more of a FPS though......
I guess you could call The Super Spy on Neo Geo an FPS... the genre wasn't particularly well defined when that game came out.
The only real breakthrough FPS that rivalled the PC games of its time was Goldeneye, so N64 gets my vote.
Oh crapsicles! Dreamcast should've been in this! What the hell happened? That's very odd, actually!! I used a foolproof method to enter the data each time! Oh well. Damn, and it DOES have FPS games too! :\
FPS stands for First-Person Shooter Resident Evil, Tenchu and Tomb Raider are all third-person games and tenchu don't even have any gun, and the games in first person for the nes where, as you said, rpgs, not fps. Oh, and i voted Nintendo 64, Dreamcast isn't bad either.
I wouldn't have voted Dreamcast as it didn't really have any standout FPS's that weren't PC ports. Quake 3 and Unreal Tourney are fine, but the PC does them better.
well, if you take it like that, you can erase snes, megadrive and saturn, because every fps on those where pc ports and where better on the original platform. And quake 3 and UT on Dc are the best ports of of these games.
Wolfenstien on the P.C I'm afraid, although I'll quite happily bung the innards of a P.C in a Dreamcast shell if it helps to comply with your voting scheme!
goldeneye!!! even halo today cant match its addictiveness. i knew every nook and cranny of every map to goldeneye..probably still do if I could ever get around to playing it again.
halo franchise is way too overhyped. yes, it's a pretty good game, better than the average, but nothing more.
