Nearly done with the polls, promise!!

Ahh! Zapper. Gun con. Pink guns to "not look realistic". Trying to sit still so you don't mis-align your sight. Bring back memories?

As you can only have 10 options, I decided on the "classic" era. As great as they were, I excluded the early Ataris, Colecovision etc. and there are some others missing too. Sorry for that! I thought this was probably the best way to balance them, though.

Please vote for the console you think had the most decent light gun games, not just because of one game! If you genuinely feel another console deserves to be voted for, feel free to say. And in the case of multiple systems listed, feel free to state which you're voting for!

Why no Arcade listed? Arcade had all the light gun games basically so that makes them the best.

  3. Well, it's CLEARLY not going to be the PC Engine or Neo Geo... I would have to say NES. Nobody really played light gun games in the 16-bit era since they didn't come with the systems and it really wasn't until Time Crisis on Playstation that they regained any kind of popularity. NES had Duck Hunt with that damn dog, Hogan's Alley, Gumshoe with the hilariously named King Dom, Gotcha! which was notable for its use of the zapper and control pad at the same time.

OK, I'll say again. This is a CONSOLE poll.

An arcade machine isn't a console (no, not even a Super Gun is).

Let's define a console as a machine that plays games off a cartridge, CD (or disk), and all other consoles (in that region) will play the same game without any modification required.

OK, so that rules out PC (an 8086 won't play Doom 3, plus it uses extra software other than just the game media). It also rules out arcade machines, because not all arcade machines will play all games. Some aren't JAMMA standard and would need a new harness to adapt to JAMMA (or whatever standard is in the cab), and maybe even an adapter for the light gun. So no ;)

*edit* by the way, I'm going for Saturn, with such games as House of the Dead (coin-op conversion), Virtua Cop (coin-op conversion) and Area 51 (coin-op conversion). You've also got Playstation with games such as Time Crisis (coin-op conversion). See a pattern emerging? ;)

Saturn has to win out here.

I have no idea how many hours of Virtua Cop 2 I've played, but it's way too many. I specifically collect Vcop merchandise & goodies. Speaking of which, anyone know where I can get the US Saturn V-cop 2 commecial with the two officers walking into the warehouse, and then it cuts to inside their patrol car with the radio saying "do not proceed, wait for backup"? I always liked that commercial.....

Nintendo 64 had a Light Gun game... 0.o?

Anyway.... I'm gonna have to go with Playstation since it had the Point Blanks, Time Crisis, and Elemental Gearbolt games.

Edit: Wait, GameBoy and NeoGeo Pocket too!?! I think I'm confused here.

Master System. I just can't regard 32-bit systems as "retro" in any way whatsoever.
And the MS had some really nice gun games. Laser Ghost is a real innovative little gem. The Light Phaser looks better than the Zapper, too.
