OK, this poll was on the old phpBB board, but didn't get transferred over. So thanks to whoever did it originally - sorry I forgot who you were! I decided to go for just retro consoles due to the limitations this time.

I know lots of people argue about what an RPG is. Well, we're gonna class Zelda as an RPG. Of course, the Shining Force series are RPGs, and the Final Fantasy series, and noone would dispute that. An RPG doesn't HAVE to have turn-based attack.

If you go by the original meaning of RPG, as in D&D, then it is a game where you take on the persona of a fantasy character and act out a quest. Whilst you are more restricted in what you can do in a video game, you still have familiar elements, e.g. money to spend and collect, weapons (which can often be upgraded), items, hit points (a health system of some sort anyway), and often certain weapons will inflict more damage.

As you can only have 10 options, I decided on the "classic" era. As great as they were, I excluded the early Ataris, Colecovision etc. and there are some others missing too. Sorry for that! I thought this was probably the best way to balance them, though.

Please vote for the console you think had the most decent RPGs, not just because of one game! If you genuinely feel another console deserves to be voted for, feel free to say. And in the case of multiple systems listed, feel free to state which you're voting for!

You sure like your polls, retro... which you posted around 4 o'clock in the morning...

    That's some hard-core polling!

Yeah, I started at like 3am, and then some people started talking to me!!! I foolishly stayed to continue.

As for this question, I find it a toughie. I started off on NES, then went to SNES and have some great RPG memories on SNES. Then I played some on MegaDrive, and finally Saturn which had several good RPGs. Tough choice!!

Famicom just because of the sheer number you can play. If you don't like one you have a thousand other rpgs you can play.

You mean original Famicom? Yeah oops, forgot to mark the NES as that, too! hehe. That category was supposed to include Famicom and FDS.

I might say Super Famicom as well, because of Star Ocean, Tales of Phantasia, and Terranigma.

I don't really have the time to delve into RPGs. But I'd have to say that the SNES/SuperFamicom is the best. Plus it has the most active translation scene.

Pity about the utter lack of RPGs on the Dreamcast. Skies of Arcadia is a fabulous game. Has anyone got/played through the Eldorado Gate series? What's it like?
