What is your favourite "retro" RTS console?

    Polls, don't ya love em?

OK, so Real-Time Strategy games. We're talking Command & Conquer games - point-at-the-man-and-command-him games. I would count games such as Syndicate and Lemmings under that category.

As you can only have 10 options, I decided on the "classic" era. As great as they were, I excluded the early Ataris, Colecovision etc. and there are some others missing too. Sorry for that! I thought this was probably the best way to balance them, though.

Please vote for the console you think had the most decent RTS games, not just because of one game! If you genuinely feel another console deserves to be voted for, feel free to say. And in the case of multiple systems listed, feel free to state which you're voting for!

I think the PC should be in here - it has more RTS games than everything else combined.

The only real platform for any kind of point and click games is the PC really. I'd never buy a strategy game for a console with a pad.

Technosoft's Herzog Zwei (MD) proves that RTS gaming works with a pad. It mixes shooting elements with real time strategy. I believe its predecessor Herzog (MSX) was the first RTS game ever to be made.

Yeah, there's very few RTS games on consoles - the only ones I can think of are Herzog Zwei and and Dune 2 on the MD, and Dune's a port of the PC or Amiga version or whatever it was on first. If you did turn-based strategies though, that would be more of a challenge!

On a related note, are there any guides or anything on playing Herzog Zwei? I don't have a manual because I only have it in stolen ROM format, and I only just realised there's an English version last week!

Again, PC isn't a console so quit whining on that ;)

Several consoles had mice. Saturn, Playstation, 3DO, um I think CD32 did and that had Cannon Fodder. Wouldn't you could that as RTS? Oh wait, it was on MegaDrive too... and there was a MegaDrive mouse!

Like I said, you can count Syndicate on MD if you want. Lemmings sorta comes under this category - and that's on several consoles since NES. Several Command & Conquer games on several consoles. Warcraft 2 on Saturn and most likely Playstation. Warzone 2100 on Playstation.

So, no RTS on consoles, eh? ;) Sure, there are more on Xbox and PS2 than older consoles perhaps, but there are still quite a few out there!

I know the PC's not a console, it's just that most the good RTS games were mainly released on home computer systems.

The Saturn port of Command & Conquer had proper CD-DA music, which kicked ass compared to the PC original, but everything else about it sucked.

I'd say Super Famicom, because of the fire emblem series.
