This is something I've been mulling over for a few years now and since we're in the tail end of the launch window for the XB1 and PS4, I figured I should ask. When do new systems stop being called "next gen"? I mean, it can't really be when the consoles release, because most games are still coming out for either both gens or exclusively for the previous gen. Is there some specific delineation between when consoles become current gen?
At this point, every major console of the current generation have been released, therefore anything from the previous generation is considered last gen. The "last gen" isn't over yet, but it's still last gen in the sense of it being from the previous generation.
When the lastgen is no longer the focus of devs or gamers. Think the PS2: it was still getting good games and selling more than the PS3 until 2008 or so At that point the PS3 was currentgen
