Another good way of covering up scratches on the side - another cab next to it ;)

While true, I don't have any room next to the cabinet :p for the scratches, I'm gonna have this body scratch remover I found a try, see if I can get some nice results with it or not. Would hopefully solve the "can't get the exact same color touch up paint" thing.

i can't account for candy coin-ops, never seen one irl, but most coin-op cabinets are usually made of mdf/hardboard.
you could get some laminate decals printed up? measure up an entire section (the effected areas) and send the specs to whatever print shop will pick up the tab.
contact car decal printers, or places that do custom laminate prints? they maybe able to help, or point you in the right direction. a lot of the materials used are similar. don't pay over the odds just because it's a coin-op. improvise safely WITHOUT cutting corners or sacrificing objectivity.
do it right, you'll not know the difference!
    just a thought?
    be free to ignore. :witless:

I've found a website that sells replicas of the stickers my cabinet used, but I can't find one for the control panel. Possibly because it was painted on. I've seen .AI files of the panel, but no one sells them. I was thinking I could repaint it, but there's a lot if fine lines that I would need to get a nice straight edge on.

if the surface is compatible with paint, use masking tape for those straight lines.
get some primer on standby if the paint won't stick, spot test a SMALL obscure area, roughly an inch that's not visible normally before you commit. chances are, if you're painting any part of it, you'll require primer for it to stick and NOT flake-off over time.
it's pretty much rule of thumb there.
you can get touch-up pens, they have the same type of paint.
powder coated could also work, but you'll probably require access to a workshop and respiratory gear...(and no source of ignition, or you'll blow the place and yourself apart. safety first!)
    good luck! :wink-new:

candy cabs are generally fiberglass on the panels just an fyi. If your trying to fill a scratch or fix something along those lines maybe researching bondo based methods would be the best option as its likely fiberglass ;)

Nope, the fridge magnets disagree with you :p

Well, the scratch fixer did bupkis, so I got some proper touch up paint. I think I've managed to get some pretty damned good results!

Can you see where the scratch was? Here let me zoom in a bit:

As you can see, it was a pretty deep, wide scratch, so to get it looking like this seems like a result to me! The color isn't QUITE identical, but it's very close.

It is rather lovely isn't it? Is that with shipping costs factored in? Did they not have a local UK version of the machine?

Thats the price if you can find one locally ,there pretty rare and sought after here. Id say you done really well. Pretty sure jasen customs does all the replacement art for these too. If it was me I think id get it powder coated and apply new art

I think the old metal cabs look nicer imo, any burn on the monitor ?

Yep, he does the stickers, but not the control panel. I've played around with re-painting it, it looks like it will work, but will be kinda time-consuming since there's a LOT of thin blue and white stripes. And all the blue touch-up paint I found was metallic, so I think I might need to look for regular acrylic paint for the blue parts. The monitor is FLAWLESS! No burn in and it's still properly calibrated! Very nice reds, blues and greens!

Eh, that's exactly what I meant about touch-up paint. That's not a good result... but it's better than a bare metal scratch (barely). Imagine that on a car. Personally, I'd respray it - depends on how much that difference bothers you, though.

You can get replacement panels for Sega machines (especially where they were fitted with mahjong controllers) but Neo ones are somewhat scarcer. The panel was unlikely to have been painted - probably decals. If you have an AI file, get it printed by someone who does vinyl graphics. Trying to remember what the panels even looked like - it's been a long time! ;)

For me, I'm fine with it. It blends the scratch in better than than the bare metal in my opinion.

Nope, this panel was painted for some reason. I could have someone print up the AI reproduction I found, but I'm gonna take a shot at re-painting it.

That's the main thing! ;) Just bear in mind that it could well affect the resale value should you decide to part with it in future.

Good luck with the paint job - post your results ;)

    MVS-U4 Restore Project

I just picked up an MVS-U4 this past week from a guy in PA and I had it shipped to TX. The original owner bought it at a Japanese furniture store while he was stationed in Japan and had it flown to PA when he got out.

Once it got here I opened it up and found that someone spilled something (soda?) in it so the control panel was rusted on the inside. I used Metal Rescue to clean up the bottom and the top CP is primer'd and will be ready to paint in a few hours. I originally planned on having it stripped and powder-coated but I read that these candy cabs can warp if the heat is too much so didn't take the chance. I am going with white automotive paint because when I went to home depot and I took the door with me we realized it was just aged white oil based appliance paint. The guy gave me a paint chart to use to match it so I figure automotive would be better than the standard white as far as UV durability.

Does anybody know where I can find a scan of the CP Art? I found replacement stickers online but I haven't seen anyone with a copy of MVS-U4 CP.

Here is a link to the pics I have taken during the process. I also posted them on the Arcade Collectors Worldwide FB group.

Awesome. Thanks for the update. I found another file with the MVS-4-25 art in it as well! I'm going to print it out and see how well it fits! FYI that Rustoleum Automotive Enamel looks awesome.

I'll post some pics up when I am done layering the paint.

"Layering the paint"? You're not getting it printed?
