Where/how to buy/build 50 pin connector for H2500?

Discussion in 'Sony Programming and Development' started by Benedict_Arnold, Jul 6, 2005.

  1. 1.) Does anyone have a 50 pin internal cable that connects the DTL-H2500 to the DTL-H2510 CD-Rom drive and would like to sell it?

    If not...

2.) Does anyone know where to get a 50 pin connector for the H2500? It appears that I need two female ends. I have tried Radio Shack and Compusa and neither have anything.

    If not...

3.) Does anyone know where I can go to ge the parts to build one?

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

I don't know much about the internals but i would guess it's a SCSI interface (as you said 50 pin and this is the norm for SCSI CDROM’s). A normal 50pin male to 50pin male will do you, I doubt it’s a custom cable.

A good page on SCSI cables can be found here - you want the top one. Any chance of some pictures?.

  3. The connector is a little different than the normal 50 pin. It looks more like a HD50 (the pins are closer together). I'll grab a picture later today.

  4. Those cables on the website won't work, I'm fairly positive. I emailed Remond cable (www.redmondcable.com) to see if they can build me one. I took pictures but can't upload them here apparently because they are too big in size. The 50 pin connector I need can't be bigger than 4 cm. A regular 50 pin scsi connector is about 7 cm.

Upload the pictures to http://www.imageshack.us or http://www.paintedover.com

They can only build cables out of known connectors, they can't build custom connectors. Lets see if we can identify the connector before you go and order soemthing custom.

Anyone here with one of these, you really could save us loads of time :)

Wow. Thats no connector i've ever seen before. No idea, i guess it's still SCSI just a smaller connctor. Hope someone comes to the rescue.

  8. Oh great. That doesn't make me feel better. I suppose the worse that could happen is I solder 50 wires. :(

I have a box of SCSI leads and stuff in work, I will see what we have there.

On a related note, I am after an adaptor for a SCSI-LW hard drive and a SCSI ultra160 80pin hard drive to go onto a regular 50 pin controller, any ideas?

I have to admit to knowing piss all about SCSI connectors and interfaces.

  10. Update: I contacted two companies and they said their suppliers don't carry any connectors like this. Anyone want to tell me any places I can checkout to see if they have anything?? thanks.

If you're desperate solder the 50 wires

He could if he had the connectors.

  13. If I had the connectors everyting would be fine. (well, sort of fine) Otherwise it would be difficult to solder the 50 wires on the board and run the wires through the PC and then out of the CD bay and then solder them in the CD-Rom.

And I'm still pissed that I was sold a DTL-H1001 with a modded board. (Not from this seller)

I think I can get you the lead with the smaller ends on it, I had a quick look yesterday and found an old server kicking around with what looked like the smaller cables.

  15. Really?! I'm crossing my fingers. Thank you very much for taking time to look for a fitting.

Bad new's, they only had the larger leads spare, there were the little 50 pins (Ultra100 or something) but the old server was being stored for transport, they need it complete...

  17. I'm assuming a bump won't matter. :(

I meant from pin to pin implicitly...

  19. *bump*

I'm still looking for a connector for the 2500 to the internal CD-Rom.

Found one small pic also showing that cable.. yep looks like somewhat 50pin-IDE
But other then a floppy cable it looks like all connections got straight through - uncrossed
    [IMG]

EDIT: hmm look at the back of the cable.. looks like there is at least one other connector on that cable (top) - has to be SCSI - just with a crappy non-standart connector! Is there anything else special about this CD-ROM?
Id say its just a mod.version of a standart consumer SCSI-CD-Rom, relabeled
Maybe you can find some info on the real model on the inside?!

Ive been looking at E-Part-catalogues etc. couldnt find fitting connectors or I wasnt able to determine if the grid-dimension fit your plug. *bss

EDIT2: well Id say a 2x25pin SMC connector could do the job...
They are (depending on the version 3.4 - 3.9cm long
and with self-cutting / cut-clamp (whatever its called in english) connectors and some 50pin SMC cable you sould be able to build one on your own.

Also found some good-night lit. *yawns
