It's a axial 1/2AA 3.6V Lithium battery. Axial means it has wire coming out of the top and bottom of the battery.

The SAFT LS14250 AX is a compatable battery, a quick search on google will give you a number of places that sell them for less then $10.

I thought perhaps contacting the seller may point you towards a potential source of the actual battery, however the very next post clarified.

I don't own any CPS material, yet!

I've always wondered why the hell Capcom made boards like this. What was the point of killing the game? I just can't see any logical reson for it apart from Capcom trying to sell you a replacement to make more money but even if it was that, the service wouldn't last forever.

I know, it's frustrating, but the main reason I don't bother with them.

Officially it was to stop people from copying the boards, it was quite successful as no CPS2 games were cloned. The battery was there to stop a hacker from having enough time to reverse engine the chips. It was cracked in the end but well after CPS boards had ceased to be.

It's easy enough to Phoenix most boards and replacing the battery every few years is a painless 5 minute job.

On Yahoo they keep popping up, but they are far from cheap (complete ones that is). Depends on the game, too... expect a shitload of money for the likes of Progear, Aliens vs. Predator ect.
SF Zero and so on are going to be easy catches.
