Nintendo is certainly taking over the world...

Who woulda thunk the DS and the ideals behind it would bring Nintendo from distant last to first place in gaming?

    Eh? GBA Says hello!!

DS purely is eating off the GBA market and expanding it. That has zero corrilation with Wii. Wii is actualy doing damn well but still will need to keep it up (gcn came out really strong but ultimately lost in the end).

I actually watched the entire D5 interview with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates (the whole hour and half of it...not sure if that's a good or bad thing...). But anyways, Gates was talking about picking up an actual bat or tennis racket and having video recognition see that you were holding a bat and swinging it. Not just have a remote controller. He was talking about future technology and how video recognition is in the near future. Pretty interesting none the less...

I disagree. The DS is a creature of its own. Sure, it has the GBA crowd, but the DS also captivated a new crowd, the same crowd thats going gaga over the Wii.

yeah I must say the Wii is definetly riding the DS wave - I mean the Wii is actually a pseudo-DS with a giant pen.

they cracked the market. like an egg. making ommelettes. nice.

It's probably a hand movement sensor. You set up a grid of sorts and use a glove or something equally silly.

Who the hell wants to use sports equipment to play a video game?
Talk about driving the price of gaming through the roof.

Swing a real baseball or golf bat in the living room? Doesn't this usually file under "Kids, don't try this at home"?

I'm just sayin' what Gates said. The interviewer said something like, "Well we already have that in the Wii." But Bill clarified and was saying an actual tennis raquet. The console or whatever would recognize you holding a tennis raquet through "video recognition". I downloaded the entire interview from iTunes if anyone wants to know where to get it.

If I grab my little guy downstairs, does it automatically load up a porn game? Maybe Bill Gates is on to something!

[edit] I can just see the Penny Arcade comic spoof now:
Interviewer: "But the Wiimote can act as many things, and all much cheaper: a fishing rod, a baseball bat, a steering wheel..."
Gates: "Ah, but you can use the real thing! Watch..."
<goes outside for a moment then pops back in>
"When you grab the steering wheel from your Maserati, the video recognition allows you to play driving games much more realistically."
    ...

Oh i see - some kind of motion-capture then possibly?? That would actually be intresting, but you would need lots of room to play in...
