So I walked into an arcade in Toronto recently was was surprised to find an F-Zero AX machine there. Apon researching it, it seems to be the only one in Canada! Quite nice to just stumble across it. I also noticed a slot for a "License Card", looked up what it was, and now I want one, if even just for obscurity's sake.

Looking online I find references that they can be purchased, but no one once says where and for how much. a quick ebay search turns up nothing. A friend of mine says that they were purchased from the arcades that owned the AX machine, but I doubt this place has any.

Does anyone have a License Card or know anything more about how to get one? Thanks!

Japan, as they only came out there WITH GX packed in. You could also purchase them seperately. Try Yahoo auctions or one of our japan living members maybe.

all machines do, even the one in London with the hydraulics ;) (although that doesnt sport a mem-card slot, which the two other units of AX should)

I thought the Monster Ride versions had neither the mem card slots or the license card slots. Colour me confused :p
Funny that I know Sega showed off the Monster Ride units a number of times, but I could never find the location of one for actual use outside of shows

Talking about F-Zero AX, does anyone know how hard it is to get a Triforce nowadays? I really want to play this and I doubt I will find one near here.

Getting the Triforce is something I explored with some users, notably Parris, last year. Back then, the prices was about the 300USD mark (I think). Check yahoo auctions Japan , as there's some that pop up.

Problem is shipping though, as those things are quite heavy!

also, not sure how to operate one - although AX should be GD-ROM based.

Hmmmm, I just found one on YJ, although it´s the motherboard only. What kind of GD-ROM drive does this thing use? Some standard Dreamcast one, or a special Triforce one? (probably a stupid question..)

The cards come out of the cabinet itself. You need to insert two credits.

you need the type that supports that scsi looking cable. Chihiro uses a similar one, but no sure if you swap them. Either way I m under the impression that it's custom to a small extent. Could be wrong though.

Doesnt it uses the same GDrom Naomi does?

As far as I know SEGA made it compatible with triforce, just like the development toolkit.

Correct. Have those coins handy cause it doesn't really give you a lot of time to insert them.

I think it is, Importaku. that's the one that came with my F-Zero GX on the Game Cube. Text on the back tells you that it's for use with the F-Zero AX arcade machine. Never used mine though since the only place that ever had one got rid of it pretty quick. No idea why though. This arcade has all the latest stuff for quite some time. Pretty amazing too since it'sa dirty smoke infested indie place as well.

If it is the same card as came with GX (JP) then it is indeed what you re talking about.

PS: How do you rank GX compared to X Mark?

Ah, this thread brings back memories. I used to go to Shinjuku Sports Land (RIP) almost every day after uni when they did the location test for AX in June or July '03. They only had the license cards with Captain Falcon then and I still have mine somewhere. The cool thing about it was that it would not only store your progress and customized glider but also print it onto the card (player rank, course finished in 1st place etc.). The dedicated cabs were great. Can't remember any differences to GX though.

I can't say that I've played X much but GX has that Sega magic. So since I was brought up on Sega racers mostly I find GX/AX a joy. Looks fantastic, plays fantastic and packs enough challenge to keep you coming back. X on the other hand did tend to piss me off at times. Like many Nintendo racers (F*ing Mario Kart, I'm looking at you) the AI seems to cheat. It doesn't matter how well you do they always seem to be right up your arse.

GX doesn't give me a SEGA feeling, since it definetely has nintendo finishing touches (they sent guys from nintendo to oversee production). It's a brilliant racer that requires a lot of technique, GX.

X is for the more hardcore crowd I guess, reflected also by its initial reviews.
