My favourite was Skyrim, but that's probably because I played it first. I tried Oblivion, but couldn't get into it.
Sorta the same here. I played Skyrim first. Loved it and put many, many hours into it. Played Oblivion and it was fine. I could not get into Morrowind. Its graphics design and dated engine made me not like it.
Morrowind by a mile. Oblivion was such watered-down garbage by comparison I didn't even bother with Skyrim. But Morrowind had the most stuff to do, the best world, the best plot, the best... everything except graphics I suppose. *Note: Compared to what came after it. Daggerfall was certainly larger than Morrowind.*
Morrowind by far. Dated engine? It looked amazing when it came out and very very few PCs could run it fast enough. Much like what happened with Oblivion. Skyrim was quite a bit better than Oblivion thankfully
Personally liked Oblivion. Best compromise of streamlining and options as far as magic/crafting, etc... While Morrowind had a great world and most complex systems , the combat is so clunky. Skyrim has the best combat, but way less interesting locations and far too streamlined IMO.
Oblivion. Because is the only one I've played. I was surprised at first. Really surprised. So promising. But I discovered the MODs. And I don't like MODs that much. But the game is so better with some MODs that I really never finished it. Why the developers themselves can't do a better thing than those ugly characters? It's really ugly. Who cares about items. The important part must be the characters. I don't know if I will ever finish it. There are "better made" games out there...
There are little things that make the difference for me. Oblivion is the one for me, only because dropped items do not clip into the ground after x amout of items are in a cell. This is my only complaint regarding Skyrim. Morrowind didn't have the physics engine and was pretty unstable. You could make pillow houses tho and I also preferred the magic armor look and how merchants would equip items you sold them.
Morrowind felt like a real sandbox game. If you had the grit, you could do some insane stuff, like making rings that let you jump five miles across the game (and sometimes crash it as a result), and the theft system was far more entertaining than Oblivion's heavy-handed approach to item ownership. Maybe I didn't stick with Oblivion long enough but that game just kept throwing boring mission after boring mission at you. Only thing that got me to stop playing Morrowind was I managed to kill a character integral to completion of the game, a tribunal member or something, and the game didn't catch it and warn me. I even tried the game editor to put him back in, but nope. Oh well, still a favorite.
i lost years to morrowind, it literally destroyed me. The sheer amount of hours i put into that game staggers me to think of it now.
Indeed. I think I make a new character in Morrowind every two years or so. Morrowind just let you do so much. "Hey, cool, I can make spells. Ummm... I'll make a fire spell that has a crazy huge radius and does a ton of damage. " *casts spell on a guard* *entire town and character are wiped out in a nuclear explosion* Morrowind also has that awesome Lovecraftian vibe that they seem to have completely abandoned.
Skyrim. I played Oblivion first but found it a bit of a trial sometimes. By comparison Skyrim is lush, exciting and varied. Absolutely loved it. Although lately I bought Oblivion again and appreciating it a bit more. I borrowed Morrowind from a friend a few years back and found it a bit clunky, but I was running it on a laptop. When I get hold of an XBox I will get it for that and see if I enjoy it.
Oh hellz yeah!! But in earnest, it must've been Morrowind among the real ES games. Boy was that shit immersive when I first played it, I was completely engrossed the likes of which I've rarely experienced since (it's probably the advancement of age and the increase in expectations, I wasn't used to much back then). Truly a world to get lost in. I dabbled in Oblivion but found it to restrictive in the beginning; the good thing about Morrowind was the possibility of exploring pretty much right off the boat. Makes me feel like replaying it!
I think I did play Morrowind the most. I remember each time I started a new game I would try to see if I could save that guy who fell out of the sky. I did once!
Morrowind for sure. I first was introduced to the series from oblivion being heavily praised as an action RPG. Ive always hated the unrealistic turn based RPGs so I gravitate towards anything real time. After buying the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion and blowing through that in a few months, I started looking for other games similar to it and found out about Morrowind. Being spoiled by the fast & easy 360 interface of Oblivion I couldn't get into Morrowind's PC interface, so I bought the Xbox version, and was pleasantly surprised by a game that while graphically inferior was miles deeper and more free than Oblivion. and had similar controls. If anyone should want to try Morrowind and are used to the 360 controls/interface, get the Xbox GOTY edition of Morrowind, it comes with the expansions built in. Ive yet to try Skyrim but it seems an even more polished experience than Oblivion.
