Hey guys In relation to the question I asked yesterday in relation to when a console should have the capacitors replaced..... I looked further into the particular Saturn I had issue's with. I really didn't have time in the morning before work to check this. I thought it may have been the ARP 4 in 1 so I tried it in a spare Saturn (the game is the genuine-not burnt JPN Wipeout) and it worked fine. I then looked at the modchip I bought a few years ago (I can't remember where though). I took it out and the console played the game better. After I purchased the above mentioned modchip I was given an American Saturn with a blown power supply which had a modchip in it. I swapped the modchips over and this modchip appears to work a bit better with this game allthough it does take 2 or 3 goes to get it going properly. What happens is the game loads, selects vehicle, track etc no worries but as it goes into the actual game the screen goes blank. After 2-3 on-off attempts it works ok. I have heard some modchips are un-reliable and I was wondering if I had one of those.... I think I should also mention and I am not sure if this is the modchip but previous to this sometimes the Saturn when turned on would freeze during the intro screen, the silver shards floating flying around would freeze and the music would loop.
+1 I've think I've made an enemy of those SSIC8 chips. Long live fat PCBed modchips! However I've not ever had experience with the long looking modchip on the right, so I can't really comment on it! :friendly_wink:
I've used a few that look like that on the right. Problem is they mostly lacked anything resembling compatibility jumpers so they can be very temperamental with which Saturn they'll work with. Got lucky and found one that has 20/21pin connections.
Ah thanks guys for the responses. I haven't re-visited the Saturn yet, might just have to be a thing where I put up with it. I will also have to try other games (when time permits lol!)
