"Akihabara" isn't tax free, although there are duty free shops. The rule is though that you have to have entered the country within the last 6 months to qualify for duty free (anywhere) although some places bend that rule. AFAIK, no game shops honor this.

I always confuse tax free with duty free, sorry. I meant duty free.

So you need to visit Japan regulary/live in Japan to shop duty free?

Yes, or at least leave every now and again. The thing is, you can usually find something cheaper than at the duty free shops, so it's almost never worth it.

Save your receipts and you can get it back when you leave.
Never tried this, but am aware you can do it.

Never heard that one. Then again, the shortest amount of time I was ever in the country was 9 months, so they probably wouldn't cut me slack. Lemme know how it goes though.

I do know, however, that I will get 7 years worth of Social Security back next month. :D

How much does a US Muscle car, specifically a Mustang 2005 GT go for over there?

You can buy a mustang in Japan. Just that the terrible handling, and even worse gas mileage make is a poor seller.

Now the giant escalade and explorer sell well. Because the Japanese
watch too much NBA and listen to too much US rap.
They want the "bling bling" too

Or if I was Japanese, the "bring bring" :smt042
