Anyone here get one every 6 months? I seem to get the flu every year, beginning or end of the year. Right now I have it, since it was so slow to start I can see this lasting longer than I usually get the flu for. I never sleep with the flu either, and cold/flu syrup is 'supposedly' meant to make you drowsy. Nope. So I'm debating if I really should dive into the flu shot this year, I don't want it again, or this bad for the matter. All my joints are aching, feel like I have crayons shoved up my nose, and I can't sleep ever with it. So for those who get the flu shot, how effective has it been for you?
It never hurts to get a flu shot, especially if you're easily susceptible to it. The effectiveness is never 100% due to ever changing strains. Wish I could speak personally about them as I never got a flu shot and only caught it once. It was so bad that I could barely get out of bed for 3 days.
Can't tell you the last time I received one. Not to say I'm against them or anything like that, I just never seem to get around to receiving one. I don't get sick all that often at all, though. *Knocks on wood*
When I was younger, I almost never got them. I got the Flu twice during that 20+ year span. Starting when I went to university, school offered it for free (public health issue for them), so I would get it every year. My job now offers free flu shots as well every year. So the past 7 years I've gotten Flu shots every fall. Haven't gotten the Flu once in those 7 years... correlation isn't causation, but so far so good for me.
Unless you have an allergic reaction (or are allergic to eggs), there really isn't much reason not to get it. I've never heard of a 6 month inoculation though, it's always 12 months here.
I have no allergies so I might dive into it and ask about it. I feel so bad right now, part of me thinks it's not just the flu but flu can be quite horrible.
If you already got it I don't think the vaccine would be of any help, unless it's very early. The benefits/risks ratio of vaccination is astronomical, the only good reason not to get it is of you are healthy, do not live/work/meet children or elders, and don't care if you get it or not. Last time I got one was h1n1, and my flatmate was infected for weeks before I got the shot, so it was kinda useless except that my mom was so reassured.
Yea to agree with FamilyGuy, Mostly if you already got the flu and you get the flu shot it wont work because its ment to build antibodies to build and destroy the virus before you have it but if you already have it again its useless
I'm wanting the shot so I don't get it so bad again. I can't stand having the flu or a cold at all. It always knocks me for a six.
Not necessarily true. It depends on if you got one of the strains included in the current year's cocktail.
I had the shot 3 years ago and I still got the flu that year but yeah probably because it was already too late. Didn't have it for 2 years after that. Not feeling too good now but hopefully it's just a cold
Good to hear Kev! I'm usually one to get sick quite easily myself and when I do it's always the full blow. Hopefully the shot helps me, mainly just worried of side effects.
My parents were always keen on getting me and my sister a flu shot every year (mom works in health care). I remember 1 year in elementary school there was a severe shortage so I couldn't get it and that was the only year I got the flu. It was miserable. I still get them here in university since they are only $20 and don't feel like a repeat of that one year. Haven't gotten the flu since then. So I guess they do something.
I don't get it because I don't think about it. Worst case, each five years or so, I am sick for one or two days and then I am OK again, so fuck it.
I can't take many medications due to allergy and intolerance. Even a migraine nose spray upsets my stomach. So, I use probiotics now. Everyone in my house has been ill the last couple weeks, and I didn't get it, so probiotics must be working.
I have the jab every year, and I haven't had flu for a long time now (I don't remember the last time, it might be more than a decade ago).
