I have a launch day system with 12 boxed games and 5 downloaded ones. It's the best machine Sony have ever made, and it's borderline criminal how they are treating this system. It's pretty much dead on arrival. If Vita doesn't make any impression this holiday, then it's screwed...and I'll cry
This. Hardware is quite powerful. Not really sure about Gamecube/Wii since Dolphin requires really powerful hardware, especially for games like Zelda:TP, SMG or Last Story, but i think it will be able to run most N64 games at full speed, NDS and arcade games like Killer Instinct or CPS-3 games too. For now i'm not buying it - a bit OP and not a lot games to play, i still have tons of PSP games to finish.
I have one and it pretty much just sits here. I agree with what others have said. Sony has really failed to support this system. I partially blame all the hacking issues for distracting them but honestly it doesn't feel like they had a solid strategy from the beginning. I don't quite regret getting it but that may have more to do with getting it for free than anything else.
IF they release the Daytona USA DLC in the UK for that Ridge Racer game, then I will get one and the Ridge Racer game, just for that DLC...
I'm not really digging the handheld market at the minute. Both the 3DS and the Vita seem to be suffering the same fate, I can not justify committing to a purchase of either system especially since both are lacking developers support. I honestly don't know what it is about the hardware that compels developers to neglect these systems, but I imagine it's roughly the same thing that prevents me from buying them. The mobile/cellphone market seems better suited to portable gaming, I never spend enough time on a train or a bus or even in a car to play on a game of any great length. There's plenty of enjoyable games I can play on my phone that will give me a quick 15 min fix, I have no need to carry a 3DS or a Vita with me anywhere I go. We come back to justifying the purchase and long journeys are so infrequent for me that any other time spent gaming is with me sitting on my couch, to which I already own a whole host of systems old and new. I won't pay all that money just to play one or two games, I have enough patience to just wait till the prices drop.
Agreed, for portable gaming I just play 5 minutes of Temple Run or whatever since my phone is always with me, unlike a relatively bulky handheld. The 3DS has some good games, but I'd rather play them on an actual console.
Hey, can I quickly ask for a list of recommended Japanese games? My friend is going to Japan soon and so I'd like to ask him to buy me some games. My PS Vita hasn't been touched in a while and all the US/Canada games are boring (I've already completed the good ones) Thanks
I had one, once I finished Wipeout, Uncharted and Rayman I didn't feel an urge to buy anything else so I sold it on. If the library picks up then I'll probably get another one. Very impressive system with so much potential but I just don't feel that the market is there for it.
It really is just a question of the games being released. I don't even have an interest in most of the games that have come out for it. But I can tell the system is crazy powerful for a handheld. Would be sad if it died.
Any of you guys tried out the Playstation Suite beta yet? I'm not too familiar with C# so I went ahead and bought a recommended book on the language to go ahead and learn the basics. Apparently at the end of the year the beta will close, and similar to the XNA side, you can pay a fee to join the indie dev club and publish your games to playstation store for both Vita and playstation phone (android) owners. The IDE comes with a shitload of demos along with source code, and they are all quite impressive, varying from a 3D R-type shooter to an open world 3D action-RPG. For anyone interested, here is a site with several tutorials to get you started with the software. It's definitely gotten me hyped http://www.gamefromscratch.com/page/PlayStation-Suite-SDK-Development-content.aspx
I lived at the vita hill in boston and because I had a long plane flight days before release i bought the pre-release model. Then one flight 4 months later I got tied up in some code i was writing and forgot all about my vita. Then only after leaving the airport did I relalize I left 500 dollars of shit and some great memories on a plane. I'll be buying a new one for sly cooper and lbp vita later this year though, it might finally be worth while.
Did you not check lost property and try to get it back? They usually clean the planes and check for left luggage after each flight. :/
That's because it's more techno shit we don't need. Maybe if it was open source and Sony would allow users to actually modify the system that the consumer wanted, they would get more sales.
I bought one at launch, and was EXTREMELY excited about it. Ended up buying several games, most of which were great. But like with the 3DS, I got bored of it quite quickly. It's not a bad system, but I think the combination of slow game releases, and the fact I'm just not using a portable outside the house, I slowly stopped playing both of those systems. I know this sounds odd, but if it did more... ie: was a smartphone, I think I would have used it more. But as it stood, I had no reason to take it around with me. And it's because of that I think I'm done with portables in general. It's a shame, as I'm sure I'll miss out on some good exclusives. When I want to game I want to play on a TV while sitting on a nice comfy couch. It was great when I was a kid and in school, entertaining me on bus and car trips. But anymore, consoles are my bread and butter.
I bought one a few months ago have no regrets whatsoever. It's a great system and kinda sad how it is being handled by Sony.
Yeah, that's the worst part. They put all their eggs in the PS3 basket, and let the Vita rot. Now they're trying to breathe life into it, but it's a bit too little too late. For a new console, it nearly saw no advertising blitz besides commercials that were borderline lies (showing pausing MLB the Show on PS3 then resuming on the Vita in the same spot).
http://au.gamespot.com/news/ps-vita-sales-total-22m-worldwide-report-6392256 < It is failing to beat Atari Lynx ,Bandai Wonderswan ,Nokia N-gage,Nintendo Gameboy Micro and Neo geo pocket and getting thrashed completely by 3DS right now which is almost at 20 million in sales it is clear NOBODY can beat Nintendo with a handheld regardless of Graphics power i thought sony would of learnt that by now ? lol
