Just curious...I've been lately picking up a few cool releases that never made it over here...anyone else taking advantage of PS3 being region free?
I've got the following PlayStation 3 imports: - Initial D Extreme Stage (Korean release, which has an English translation for all the menu's in the manual) - SEGA Golfclub
On hand now just Arcana Heart 3 PAL and Mirror's Edge JPN. Had a few others before, also saw some I didn't pick up.
I got the original version of Nier for the PS3 a few months ago when I was over in Japan. Speaking of which, it's a very underrated RPG. Definitely worth checking out if you are into them. Just remember that you gotta play through the game a few times to get the whole story.
I usually buy the US version, unless the the Asian version includes the Japanese voices and English subtitles/text. Although my PS3 games collection is pretty small (5 games or so), so far only 1 is a non-US game: Final Fantasy XIII; got the Asian version (Chinese? Hong Kong?) which has the Japanese voices and English subtitles/text.
Generally I'll stick to the localised releases and try to support those and the companies involved. PQube and Rising Star Games have done remarkably well with all of Arc System Works' fighters and Cave's shmups, and they deserve as much support as possible. However, there are occasions when I'll import, such as my recent Aquapazza purchase also Arcana Heart 3 before that and Under Defeat HD. I very much doubt Aquapazza will get an English release, although I didn't expect one for AH3 either. Although both the UK and Japanese Arcana Heart 3 Ltd Editions were worth getting. I also have all the region-free shmups for the 360 as they were never going to get localised anyway.
In Australia, so I get European games by default. However, I have imported Lollipop Chainsaw Premium Edition, Ryū ga Gotoku OF THE END (before Yakuza Dead Souls finally came out), NieR RepliCant as I've got the PS3 NieR Gestalt/NieR version and wanted to see all sides of the game and it's lovely music. Lollipop Chainsaw's version is interesting, if your PS3's default language it set to English it will display the entire game as the normal English version, change it to Japanese and you can continue where you left off with the Japanese language version (including the dub change) and upon completion of the game you can select to use another Japanese dub version for it. The other two games are only displayed in Japanese. My husband is from the US (going to end up moving to there) and I ended up finding him a hard copy of Siren Blood Cure seeing as the US PSN version is censored and our version also includes a making of video on the disc.
