Not exactly 'news' to you guys that have had the DS for a while but here in the U.K the DS has only just been launched... Have to say I'm impressed with the way it works. ...Especially taken with Metriod Prime, I usually hate FPS on handhelds, but this one works like an absolute charm using the stylus as a mouse makes all the difference.
Hate it with a passion for Metroid and Mario 64, but it's beyond sweet with games like Sprung, Feel the Magic, and others. Voted 'Love it' - there's something to be said for being freed of the typical d-pad/control buttons configuration at last. Now if only Sony and Nintendo learned the best d-pad in portable history was the NGPCs stuck and emulate that....I am sick and tired of the typical Nintendo-style cross d-pad.
Love it, games like wario ware, polarium and yoshi touch&go are excelent.. mario64Ds sucked balls though because the controls are just plain shit.
Touchpad as replacement for analog stick = stupid + ass + bad. Classic D-pad controls/pen-based touchpad control = win. I voted 'love it' because I'm enamoured with the DS in general. But yeah, handhelds need a NGPC stick - that was the bees knees of controls.
I've owned one since it's Japanese release now. I don't love or hate the contols. I think Mario controlls a bit dodgy at times though. Yakumo
Mario controls dodgy, but i love metroid, warioware, Catch! Touch! Yoshi! and feel the maghics controls. As said before, it can't be used as a replacement for the D-Pad, and nintendo should have gone with somne form of analogue control
I must admit the Metroid control scheme is as perfect as you can get short of a keyboard/mouse. The precision you get using the system is unmatched...no console controller can compare. Mario64 on the other hand takes some getting used to.
I like the way the DS works too. But I was thinking about the control limitations comming from the stylus itself and NOT the touch screen. Maybe the packed styluses aren't very good? Is there anybody who has tried a different stylus? Maybe the control accuracy can be improved with an "aftermarket" stylus?
The actual touchscreen "pixels" (it's made up of a big matrix of squares) are probably bigger than the tip of the stylus, so I doubt it. I've only played the demo of Wario Ware in my local Game so far, and thought it was great! I don't know how well non-touchscreen games play though - I also hate the shit out of Nintendo's d-pads (and Sony's ones) - they always make my thumb really hurt after a while and sometimes I get blisters! I never used the NGPC's stick, but it does look like the perfect crontol for handhelds.
Buying an aftermarket stylus can make a differnece on both low and high end palms and pocket PCs. Why would the DS be any differnent?
