The link was posted here somewhere...but can`t be :butthead: to find it.

I think I am the subject of a similar scam at the moment.

There has to be some people out there who can investigate/find details of PC`s, e-mail addresses etc etc to help me flush this guy out? :smt024

He could be above board but when the auction site has a UK Name and Address but the e-mails are coming from Indonesia........different ISP`s and the payment is coming from two different named accounts.

    Me is thinking..................DODGY.............

    Anyone want a challenge :smt017

If you think the guy is ripping you off, then accept international money order or cashier's check only, no personal checks (as they can be phoney/bounce/whatever,) no paypal, no escrow service. If they guy doesn't like that then tell him tough shit. Don't even let it get to the point where he's asking you for a third party to hold the money, no way. That has scam written all over it.

  3. What Hawanja said. Indonesia is a little bit TOO far away from the UK for comfort in this deal, methinks.. Insist that the guy buy the item from you in an ebay auction so you can screw him in feedback if he tries to back out of the int'l money order.

Indonesia is in the middle of a civil war right now, and they routinely kill christians.

I don't think you're getting your money back.

There's a progam called Neo Tace-it that you can get from download.com that you can use to get a general location from his IP address. The registered version will give you more accurate results (like the city.) Get that by looking at the headers of his e-mail. Also try asking any of his prior customers for a mailing address.

Is this guy buying from you or selling? I hope you haven't sent the money yet.

I think he's already figured out how to tell where he's from.... any nimrod that knows what an X-header is can figure that out.

That is a bit of an exaggeration... there are indeed several conflicts in Indonesia (Atjeh, the Molucs) but that doesnt mean the whole country is in turmoil (though certain parts of Holland are with the loads of moluc people here :toimonster: )

    He was buying...

Transpires the registered user details on EBID were for a guy that does exist! and he works for Triumph Mototcycles.

His company credit card had been fleeced recently..........................which was only discovered when I advised them of this unusual deal.

I may well do an Power Book trick and mail him a small box with a high value on it to stuff him on customs fees`s :smt040

    .

    this does not always work.
for our AU I often get asked to be present at Custom House when they open the box for inspection but rarely pay for duty...

as long as I keep the total value under A$1000 - otherwise it has to be imported via custom brokers - I haven't been hassled. One time I got asked to pay for CD-ROM games but successfully argues that these weren't music CD but gaming console CD disc... after all these are at the officers desecration... and some officers are more knowledgable with Saturn and all - and they're like in their 50s... :)

long story short I haven't asked to pay any duty/tax on many of my high valued items - Sonic Saturn, Prototype Saturn, Tekki box set yet asked to pay 5% duty on smaller items - like 5% on U$2.50 item... no big deal except it's bit hassle to travel to and from... :p

think for UK it's different story all together thou...

    cheers

No, if I remember right "Molucs" actually refers to the "Molukken" islands, but I'm not sure how you call their inhabitants (or respective descendants) in English. In my experience, they're a pretty nasty bunch :Hangman:
