Ooh, I happen to have some stuff open, too:
    http://underground-history.co.uk/front.php
http://www.g-cans.jp/intro/07photo/index.html (appears to be a huge drainage network under Tokyo)

These are all underground but madly fascinating, I think!

Oh and the baddest mofo of abandoned places: Google on the "Ryugyong Hotel" in Pyongyang... that's some scary stuff.

Imagine waking up there, it'd be like something out of the Prisoner.

Ah - now this is right up my alley.

Here's is one of my personal favorites:
    http://www.invisiblethreads.com/potd/collections/galleries.php?cc=1

It's all Toronto based, but still some really cool stuff. My favorite is the Hydro-Electric station in Niagra Falls, ON. I always wanted to see inside that building whenever I visited the falls.

Yes, must agree. Site design (Apart from it being bland) was extremely annoying. The white text kept overlapping the pictures making it impossible to read (Have to highlight everytime).:crying:

Otherwise, I thought it was a great picture adventure!

I love looking at Giant abandoned things like this. Wish I could visit it myself. Some parts (Such as being in the pyramids) would be might scary though! :eek:h:

    http://www.gunkanjima-odyssey.com/

A very professional site covering the topic of one large abandoned island near Nagasaki that was used as a coal mining industrial area for more than 100 years. Has tons of great pictures.

At university I also did some research on the Dojunkai organisation and their apartment houses. Whoever has been to Tokyo before 2004 might remember the old Aoyama apartments that were semi-abandoned for quite some time and torn down in the end. Too bad anything old that is not a religious or representative public bulding is not to stay for long in Japan.

Keep 'em coming! I love stuff like this - underground-history.co.uk has long been one my favourite haunts.

When I were a lad, I used to go walking disused railway lines. An awful lot of things have been destroyed/built over, but occasionally you'd spot some relic from the past hiding in the weeds, like an old sign, or remnents of a signal post. It's an odd sensation walking through somewhere like an old station that was once busy, but now lies forgotten.

I had read that it has been closed to the public since 2003 but here's what Wikipedia has to say:

Note: Hashima is the official name of the island.

Bugger, if they are going to restore it then it will loose most of the reasons why anyone would like to go there.

By the way, about 10 minutes walk up the mountain there's an abandoned shrine that I may take a few pictures of and a video if anyone is interested. I went there at night and shit my self as a bloody snake slithered across my toes  If I do go again it won't be at night though. can't see anything and those black snakes........
