Thanks for all your congrats, everyone. I enter many contests and raffles all the time just for the sake of it. Never win anything of real value mind you so you can understand how surprised I was to hear the news today. A question to 360 owners, can a 360 run at 1080p via D5 Terminal (1080p Component) or do you need to use HDMI?
Congrats Yakumo! Should be great to use it with your Xbox360. But you are not getting rid of that amazing CRT you have, right?
No, the CRT can do 1080i so that will go downstairs in the dinning room along with a DVD player. Is there a noticable differents between 1080p via component over HDMI? Not that I have the cash to buy a HDMI cable from my 360 to the TV (or maybe one will come with the TV?) but just wondering if it will be worth it for a future buy or not. Yakumo
Uh, HDMI cables aren't really expensive at all. I've heard that the video quality IS better and you can upscale DVDs which you can't do on component cables, if you care about that kinda thing. Of course, it's also convenient to have sound and video in one cord too.
HDMI is digital, Component is analog. You might get a slightly better picture quality out of HDMI. As well I'm not fully sure how things are on t he 360 but on the PS3 there is certain things (mostly i think bluray films) where you can only do 1080p over HDMI due to a security feature. Anyways don't buy into that gold plated $100+ hdmi cable crap. You can get some pretty solid hdmi cables for under the equivalent of $20. Just check online. Again since HDMI is digital, there isn't signal degrade or interference like you can get with analog cables (composite/component/vga). Also if you have a hdmi 360, it's just a normal hdmi port on the back (so you don't need anything special from MS).
yeah, just spend a few bucks on an HDMI cable. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240
maybe you should wait till you win a cable? but I don't think it's worth the wait, just go get one already!
Thanks for the cable links, guys. Well, the TV finally arrived and I'm very happy with it. Fantastic picture quality as expected with loads of nice features such as Hard Drive recording and playback. Live TV freeze and rewind. USB Keyboard for use with the Regza option. basically surf a special version of Yahoo, receive and write Emails, view pictures from SD cards and other "I want to be a PC/TV hybrid" stuff that I'll never use. Loads of ports too so I doubt I'll need to buy any switch boxes for a while, 4 HDMI ports and 2 D4 (1080i Component) ports as ell as a load of composite and 2 S-Video ports. No VGA port though which is a bit of a downer for my Dreamcast's VGA box. As expected the 360 looks fantastic at 1080p Surprisingly my Saturn looks pretty decent too. I was expecting far worse. Yakumo
LOL you jammy bast, jammyier than someone who fell into the vat at the jammy dodger factory Congrats on such a awesome win.
I know mate. I keep expecting someone to come round and say it was all a big mistake and take the TV back.
Old systems dont look as bad on newer tv's as people will have you believe. Congrats on the TV, looks nice! Id be lying if i said i wasnt jealous
Only system that looks like shit on hd is 64 and that is cause it uses such an awful low resolution with its muddy textures. Is it just me or do Japanese tvs not feature component inputs?
Damn you are very lucky. I don't know how many times i've entered the Gadget show's comp along with many other competitions to win stuff and i never do win or if i do its like a 3rd place prize of a poster or something like that. How come some people be this lucky? Reminds me of the time (just when our main CRT tv broke) a friend of my dads was down and he was saying that a mate of his who works in something to with rubbish/recycling managed to get a fully working 50" lcd TV that was thrown out because the stand had broke which made me feel sick, i mean we get by with CRT tv's (until we can afford and justify a 40"+ lcd) and here are some people throwing out 50" because "The stand broke"
