No matter how many times I tap the circles on the screen, the 3DS doesn't re-calibrate the touchscreen. It isn't horribly off to a point where I can't use it, but for things like the keyboard, it can get annoying. It seems to work when I tap the center offset to the left which doesn't make sense and if i press each point perfectly, it doesn't work. Does anyone know what is causing this and if there is a way I can get it to work without sending the console to Nintendo? P.S. I don't have a screen protector, so it isn't that.
I was thinking it might be that, but every part of the screen registers that it is being tapped. I thought it doesn't respond at all when it is broken?
Have you contacted Nintendo? Sounds like something that would be covered by warranty to me, if an intended function of the console didn't work due to a fault. If you bought it second hand or warranty is void you can scrap that idea lol but worth a try otherwise, if you end up doing more damage to it you'll probably have to pay for it.
It is still covered, but I feel like they would find something to pin it on me (Like a tiny crack I have by the 3D adjuster). Also, it prompted me with a disclaimer about potentially losing games and data stored on the 3DS. I know it is probably rare that it happens and most games are on the SD card, but it still bothered me. Plus, it doesn't act broken. It acts as if it is just not calibrated, but it wouldn't accept it when I did it correctly. If the problem persists, Nintendo is a last resort.
I don't know if this means anything, but there is a tiny little dot that has been under the screen (or part of it) for a while (first noticed it about when NSMB2 released). It just seems to be darker then the rest of the screen (by far). I don't remember noticing the problem then and the user manual suggests it is normal. Not sure if any of this is related.
It is larger than a pixel and apears to be changing colors but appears darker. I will try to take a picture of it (might be too small for camera) later when I get the chance
I think it is slacking in the middle. Also, most times I recalibrated (by offseting the center or left side) the sides of the screen were off. It seems that top and bottom are calibrating correctly and left and right is somehow broken (if any of that makes sence).
Here is the spot This is what the spot looks like close up. It is on the left side of the circle (it is hard to make a circle when the screen isn't working). It is pretty noticeable in the close up.
if there is a dead pixel that is on the lcd it does not affect the digitizer, the digitizer and the lcd are separated each with it own ribbon. I believe your problem is with the digitizer but to be sure of that you will have to open the console and check. Digitizers are not so expensive they are pretty cheap.
If it changes colour than it could be a dead pixel, or a stuck pixel. Usually dead pixels are either black or red (in previous experiences) I'd just call Nintendo and explain the problem. If it's under warranty they'll put brand new parts in. Not sure why you're holding off and pottering around wondering what is wrong. You're wasting your warranty.
I finally got a chance to send this in to Nintendo. The repair was fully covered by warranty and I should be receiving it tomorrow. It will be nice to finally be able to seach something on the eshop without the console registering the wrong key.
Got it back today. Works like it did when I first got it. The touchscreen was replaced, although that spec is still there. In any case, Nintendo did a good job fixing up my 3DS.
