Why do LCD screens need 'Auto Adjust'?

    Hey.

Just wondering something really. Every couple of days, my LCD screen starts to go blurry.. it kinda 'drifts'. Hitting auto-adjust sorts it. VGA connection.
Why is this? Is it the screen, cable, or video card? I couldn't find much in the way of an explanation through Google.

    Thanks people =)

Either your video cart sucks or your monitor sucks. Once I do auto adjust on my screens, they've stayed that way for several years.

This is because VGA is an analog signal, and each video card outputs a slightly different signal, and the monitor has to "memorize" the sync information to get the timing right.

It adjusts the phase of the ADC sample clock to coincide with the video card's pixel clock. Since the ADC doesn't sample at twice the pixel frequency, it has to be sampled at the middle of the pixel to not duplicate the prior or next pixel (and thus loose resolution/increase blur).

Its at native res. Screen is about.. six years old or so, and has given lots of service. I would guess it was the laptop- when its plugged into mains, it produces some interference on the screen. So yeah I know *something* is up.. I was just wondering on what the technicality actually was..
