Review scores are almost meaningless, because they seem to have been inflated in the last decade or so. Nowadays every release with enough money behind it gets a score that's well over 9.0 — with GTA IV even getting perfect 10s. Just look at the amount of games in Gamerankings.com's top 10 that have been released in the past 10 years! Therefore, I'd say that an increase in average review scores means very little. Edit: I just took a look at the list, and only 3 games in the top 10 were not released in the 2000s (Ocarina of Time, Soul Calibur and Tekken 3). Of the remaining games, only 1 (Metroid Prime) was not released in the past 5 years. As for the topic itself...for entertainment? What other reason do people play video games for?
Ok then. But here's a list of top quality PS3 games, that everybody who played agrees is great. And i'll only post exclusive ps3 games: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, God of War Collection, God of War III, Infamous, Killzone 2, Motorstorm, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Wipeout HD Fury, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Resistance 2, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain, ModNation Racers, Folklore, Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza 3, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Super Stardust HD, Joe Danger, Shatter, echochrome, Pixeljunk Shooter. These are just the ones i remember. Also you can get cheap PSOne classics like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VII, and others, on the PSN. And there's more stuff coming: GT5, Infamous 2, Killzone 3, Last Guardian, Team ICO Collection, Resistance 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Sly Cooper Collection, Yakuza 4, Little Big Planet 2, Twisted Metal, ... Plus all great multiplatforms, that always are avaiable on both the PS3 and Xbox360. So, the only difference between the PS3 and X360, gamewise, are the exclusives. If you like Halo, Gears of War, Forza Motorstorm, Alan Wake, among others, you buy the X360. If you like GT5, God of War, Killzone, Uncharted,... you buy the PS3. Honestly, i think most of you guys are too harsh with the PS3. I think most of us remember good times playing games. Be it finishing a difficult game, finally beating that boss, completing a challenge,... I can't describe the countless hours of fun me and my friends had with Daytona USA during high school and early college years. For some time, there was no Daytona USA avaiable at the arcades, just those recent crap stuff. Thankfully, this friday, i had a nice surprise. The arcade i use to go bought back 4 DX Daytona USA cabinets. It still need some repairs, on the screen and gear shift, but just to see the real arcade again was just awesome. Brought back all those great memories.
Yeah, those all good games, for PS3 games. Reviews are a joke these days. I knew a lot of people that like games just because they think they're supposed to. I just play what's fun.
No, this wasn't about the PS3 at all, it was about how review scores are generally higher these days, and that it shouldn't be considered an example of how games have gotten better. The best games of this gen have average scores that aren't that far from 100%, there's not that much room to increase those scores for the surely much bigger and better games on future gen platforms.
While i do understand that, there's nothing we can do about it. While GTA got 98+ at metacritic and gamerankings, i'm was far more interested on Dead Space that got average of 88. Bioshock is a fantastic game, but i wasn't interested for it. Will i buy just because it has great scores? No. Also, i think reviews should offer a more complete information. I think that rating a game with just 4 or 5 descriptions isn't enough.
I play games right infront of girls so they all come straight to me, and it works. Guess nobody else thought of that...
No, they come straight to me, to ask me why the hell am I playing games instead of trying to hit on them
You could also basically just ignore them, it has the same effect. Now you just add a nerd factor to it all
