Why do you think no one made ps3 (fat) shells? You can get 360 shells in all colors but I've never seen a single ps3 aftermarket shell.
I can think of 2 reasons: The PS3 didn't sell nearly as well as the XBOX 360, the PS3 started selling properly when the slim model was released. The fat PS3 was quite a machine and a shell for it would be quite expensive, that and the lack of users compared to the Xbox 360 could be one of the reasons. Anyway, these are just my thoughts.

I've opened up many PS3 phat models and the inside cases are different per model. CECHA cases won't work with pretty much any model except CECHA motherboards, CECHK won't work with anything but CECHK. I don't think CECHH or CECHL can be interchanged as well. So the after market company would have to make a case for each model, which probably makes it harder to make a business case for it. Edit: Also a cool fact, the front case of the phat black PS3 actually isn't full on black. It's actually just "smoked" see through plastic. The piece behind it is full black, which makes the whole console have a deep gloss black color. The white and silver phat models (from japan) don't do this.
There's a few slim cases but not as common as 360... The Playstation 3 case is beautiful though, especially in white and chrome trim.
CECH-G - CECH-Q fits perfect together. I think the replacement cases in same color is because the glossy finish.
