There are a few features of Bravely Default that make it seem like the devs wanted it to be on 24/7, even in sleep mode, for some reason. I dunno, my cynical side kicked when when I realized you get bonuses for leaving the game (and system) running all the time. Are they trying to wear out DS's and batteries to get you to buy new ones sooner? :O The game also wants you to upload some sort of data once per day. Does anyone know exactly what gets sent? Is sqeenix mining this data to figure out how to best squeeze in game purchases out of rubes? :O Are they trying to stop cheaters (who cares, it's a one player game)? Or is this some sort of anti-Piracy check/measure to make sure they don't get the full features of the game? They Provoke me to find out more...
1. You leave Bravely Default on to build Norende village. Once everything is up to lvl 11 you no longer need to do this. 2. You Update to send/receive Net Friend invites. Basically, you send out a Nemeses and the ability for someone to summon an attack you set in battle, in return, you receive the same from some people online. These people also contribute to your Norende population. This feature is included for people who may not be in an area where they can frequently get StreetPasses. Certainly, you do not have to do any of this.
