Why does Yoshi's Story get so much hate?

Sure, it's kiddy and cutesy, but I think it is a really solid, fun game. I'm a minority by the looks of it?

Do you share in the hatred?

I don't like it much but then again I don't like many of Nintendo's IP's much apart from F-Zero and the original Star Fox. I'm no Nintendo hater either. I love the SFC so much that I had a 300+ japanese original collection for it.

Did you enjoy Yoshi's Island much, then?

It's a solid platformer. I don't see it as a proper sequel though.

It's pretty difficult when I first played it as a kid. Nice game though.

Solid and very underpaised. Not a proper sequel to Yoshi's Island though. Yoshi's Island was good but sort of overrated; there are better Mario games for the SFC like Super Mario All-stars.

I haven't played Yoshi's Story in quite awhile but if I remember correctly, it is significantly shorter than Yoshi's Island and a less challenging. Personally, I liked the game but compared to Yoshi's Island it left a little to be desired. It could also be because it is a 2d platformer that came out when everyone had a hard on for "3D" graphics. Also, Sony marketed the PS1 to a older demographic which inevitably made the N64 seem more "kiddy" here in the states. Couple that with it's cutesy graphics and...you get the idea. I dunno, that is just my theory.

I would like to know how well the game sold in Japan.

Problem was that it was waaaay too easy and short, and if you were a kid back then and spent $60 or $70 for it (forgot how much it was), then you would of seriously felt ripped off. Plus it greatly pales in comparison to yoshi's island in length, gameplay, and course design.

Yoshi's island was much better, and yoshi's story was to short and left you wanting more.
When i first played it, i thought what is this crap(after playing yoshi's island for many years)but in the end it did grow on me but i still like yoshi's island better.

Yoshis island is sublime. I don't see story as a true sequel but it is s very good game. Brimming with charm and fun ideas. The graphics are so clean and sharp, very unusual for n64. You can whip through it mega fast, but it is challenging to go for 30 melons- that's where it becomes difficult.

I played it when it first came out and I loved it. It was a bit too easy though.

    I've never heard about "hate".

It's a bit childish, and that music can be annoying to some people, but the game is very nice. Very beautiful. Too easy, but it was obviously aimed to kids...

They could have added a very hard mode or something... Maybe a sequel... Toughts about a sequel...

It's a bit weird, thinking about games so well made and "that's it". Same with Kirby.

I love Yoshi's Story. The graphics are beautiful, and it's a really solid, fun platformer. I don't mind the cutesy-ness. It is a lot shorter and not as hard as Yoshi's Island, but it's still really enjoyable. It also has multiple different paths, like Star Fox 64; so it could potentially be much longer if you take the trouble to unlock the various paths.

Yoshi's Island is also a great game; really challenging (to me, anyway), but really fun. I beat the GBA version. It's sad that they never released Yoshi's Story on the GBA, as they had a working demo of it at one point (which you can now find on the web).

Probably just because Yoshi's Island destroys Yoshi's Story.

I've never given Yoshi's Story a proper play-through but from what I've seen friends play, it doesn't really look like I need to bother...
