Why is getting harder and harder to find demos or promo cd ? :banghead::banghead:
I'm asking this kind of question , because im looking for some demos for my personnal collection !

it's really hard to find 90's demos or promos.
maybe the collectors keep their cds.

    What about you ??

fujin78: I used to collect all my demo cds and what not from PC Player (a Danish magazine) and what not, but I threw them out some years ago. And in some ways I regret that now. But at least I got an arseload of great module files from the CDs that I still have.

Yes , but it's quite harder to find 90's demos or promo from the videogame's magazine.

I disagree completely. The increased spread of the Internet makes it EASIER to find a demo/promo from any part of the world now than when it was new in 1997 or whatever.

You are too impatient, Fujin. I know you. You search for something once, and if you can't find it, it's "extremely hard to find". Then you search for it again two weeks later, and if you still can't find it, it's "IMPOSSIBLE to find". You always expect to find something immediately. It's not healthy for you!

I'm guessing that one item you are particularly thinking about is the Japanese Bio 3 promo disc (www.crimson-ceremony.net/lostreleases/item.php?id=redemo_re3-ps1-jpn-promo1). The reason you can't find it is not because it's "old", it's because it is super rare. I've only seen references to two discs, and one of them was even lost in a house move... So in this case you're right, it is almost impossible to find, both in 1999 and today.

Decades speaks the truth, some items just take time to pop up, even if they aren't considered "rare." Patience is key for all true collectors. Ebay has settings to inform you on when certain items pop up, does it not?

If their is a certain item you really want, all you need is the internet and patience. It will come.

Also, demos and promos probably aren't super common because most people probably just keep them to collect dust as they don't see how the hassle of putting it up online for sale is worth the time for the profit acquired... Just a guess though.

I have tons of PS demos/Promos, Stacks of Xbox demos, etc etc., and they are all just piled somewhere not being used.

I used to have a near complete OXM demo disc collection that I attempted to sell (we're talking 50-70 discs at that time. All but the first 10 or so up until that point) and I had to toss them as they were taking up space.

My ODCM discs got sold thankfully.

Seems the older things are, the less common to find for sale, wouldn't you think?

    That is simple logic.

    Simple false logic.

A better touting of "logic" would be that the more of something that were once in existence the easier it would be to find them. The less of something the harder it is. The older it is the harder it is is pure 100% nonsense. Example: fossilized shark's teeth. Harder to find? Baby teeth.

    Well it's both.

The more or less made dictate how hard it will be to find in the years to come.

Everything with age becomes more difficult to find.
There were plenty tin lunchboxes for say... Star trek made in the 1960's. In the 1970s they were not that hard to find... Now almost 50 years more and good luck.

Given it 20 more years and a 70 year old item becomes even harder.

    Time kills everything, eventually.

Yes ultimately time kills everything somehow even if you want to think "wtf would destroy lead" if you answered "when the sun becomes a red giant" then you'd be right. But in terms of a human life time weird things happen like discovering a cache of cars in some very old guy died having.

Statistically speaking in terms of collectibles the fact they're harder to "find" might just be because collector's have a piece they really, really wanted and aren't willing to sell it for another 50 years.

Splitting hairs but I enjoy splitting them because it's the type of crap we do around these parts.

It's all about how rare a demo is. There are demos in the few prints only, and there are demo in the few thousand prints or even several tenthousands. And then it also matters of what game the demo is. A demo of a cave shooter for the saturn/psx or a demo of a baseball or pachinko game for the PS2.

Considering ebay and torrents, it's alot easier now than before. In the 90's, knowing a journalist was vital.

I tried to sell my PSX Registered Users Demo 08. It was a limited run item, you had to buy a PSX and mail away to get it. No one cared :p I'll sell it when it's value is equal or greater than the price of the PSone I bought to get it.

We're talking 15 years ago, not 50. But yes, as this thread shows, things ARE thrown in the trash. Let's just hope they're all OXM sets, not something rarer. :)

That's not my point, and I'm not arguing who's a "true collector" or not. My point is just: Take it easy and things will appear. I'm gonna get that promo. ;)

Almost five years... Finally, a friend sold me his demo last summer.

I see it on eBay every now and then (I collect PAL PS1 demos). None of the games featured on it are particularly attractive to collectors (in other words, there are no Resident Evil, MGS, or Gran Turismo games on it), perhaps Kiff will give you €3 for it because of the Street Fighter EX Plus 2 demo though!

Yeah , you have been lucky but your friend had not sold his cd for you , do you think you are going to find it ? ( maybe in 10 years hehe )

By the time , i lose motivations !!
And are you should be very reasoned ?

But that's just it. Sometimes you find things by pure luck. If he hadn't sold it, I would have found it one day, but who knows when... Five more years? Ten?

And I have no idea what you mean by your last question.
