as the title says, why is the game ID SLUS-20202 (Crazy taxi) so special. i didn't really pay attention to this until recently, but this game ID seems to appear almost everywhere that somehow relates to PS2 and it's exploits. for example, the odd thing that HDLoader installs every game as SLUS-20202 (see info.sys of every HDL installed game) and some forms of Action replay and such deal with cheatcodes referencing this ID. this isn't even a HDD compatible game by default and i just can't find a logical reason behind this. It could be just a randomly picked ID too, but i ruled that out after seeing seeing it used on more than one place. anyone has any insight of why it's seemingly being used on majority of ps2 related exploits and hacks ?
All i know is that the guy who made the first HDLoader used Crazy Taxi as base code. I would suggest you to go PSX-Scene to try getting more info
If you ask me its because SLUS-20202 is easy to remember and fairly common game. Its also possible that the original exploits authors and that came over from the Dreamcast and use Crazy Taxi's ID as homage to that once great console, probably a stretch but its a nice thought
didn't know that it was coded out of crazy taxi i remember hearing some stories that actual HDL was reverse-engineered from a HDD compatible game. i'll try my luck with PSX-scene then. Thanks
I believe that the first non Sony Pressing plant to make a bootable PS2 disc was based on the security sectors taken from the Crazy Taxi disc. I think it was a subsidiary or Datel.
this would imply that unlike ps1 games, the ps2 employs security data unique to each game? I'm unfamiliar with the ps2's disc checking routines, as the psx's scex "chirp" is pretty well documented these days...
