How come no one has exploited the Wii's tech to make a light gun for older consoles like the Saturn, Dreamcast, NES (ok, this one I understand why), PS1, PS2, Ect. that WORKS ON LCD? I mean it is possible, isn't it? Why is there no Wii Zapper converter out there or if there is could some one link me to where I could find one? I like the tv I have because it has every connection I would ever need (AV, S Video, Component, HDMI, VGA, ect.) but light gun compatibility exists. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
http://www.hkems.com/product/xbox/LCDTopGun.htm This existed way before the Wii did, it's not like the technology in the Wiimote was something new and revolutionary.
I already had seen that, but it really only supports xbox fully. One that would work on multiple consoles would be better and I feet that the wiimote is easily accessible to most gamers.
i assume because its still pretty easy to get hold of an old CRT tv / monitor for free / cheap and the original hardware is still very accessible too
Also they're not terribly accurate. A Wii-like lightgun solution would be useless for stuff like Time Crisis or Point Blank. Unless you showed a crosshair on the screen but then, pfft, easy mode. Edit: Yay, 100th post!
I guess. I have my oldest consoles set up on a CRT. I don't really need to use a light gun all that often I guess and if I do, I could always move a console downstairs to the CRT setup. It would be nicer to have something that worked though.
It is a real pain in the ass to convert from coordinate-based tracking (e.g. Wiimote, infrared sensors) to scanline-based tracking as used in older arcade and console games. I have played most lightgun games on various platforms, and nothing even comes remotely close to a scanline-based tracking system. We need to wait until we get much higher (and usable) refresh rates and can do some form of binary division flashing that would truly simulate a scanline tracker or we put good cameras in the controllers to get decent lightgun games on LCD's.
