I can send a fake e-mail by creating an addon domain in cpanel then creating an email account in cpanel associated with that domain... i sent a test email to my teacher and informed him i was testing it out and in outlook the email showed as admin@(fakedomain).com im not mentioning the domain for my personal and financial safety
Whoops, accidentally pressed submit. Anyways, I don't exactly remember the domain name, it was something like that, but there are email "spoofers" out there where you just type in the email you want something sent from, then you type in the recipient, and the body of the email. You don't have to go through the trouble of making a domain and whatnot.
+1 The cost to fly one lawyer to the other side of the states is probably more than they would be willing to spend if this was a legit request.. I would just stick it out, and/or press them to verify their identity... but then i'd still stick it out till the end.. but that's just me.. And i guess everyone in the states forgets that you have to be convicted by a jury of your peers... hmm think they would side with the little guy?? or microsoft?? my bet is every jury member has cursed MS's good name atleast once in the same week as the trial while sitting in front of their PC.
You people do realize that if Microsoft sues you, they are going to tack on legal fees too, right? Also, whoever insures the hardware is going to do one of two things: refuse to pay out if Microsoft does not make an attempt to recover the hardware, or come after you directly to recover the cost of the payout.
^^ if it were to end up that a legit request was sent for the return of some piece of hardware from any company a simple craigslist ad with a $20 price tag and a pic could effectively defeat any presumption that you even had "insert devkit or whatever" so i don't see how it could even turn into some big ordeal,.. at least it's nothing i would get myself worked up over. But I'm just trying to add my advice for this guy to take or leave,.. whatever it may be worth.
Where do XDKs from Acclaim (or other bankrupt devs) fit into this? If they're legitimately sold at clearance auctions surely the contract between MS and the now-defunct legal entity has nothing to do with your valid title. Kev was saying the USA Acclaim auctioneers were ensuring only devs bought the dev stuff but it's totally understandable how that could happen. So, Acclaim(etc) boxes: safe or not? Stone
This is somewhat a Grey area. technically i think there are intellectual property of ms, but TBH i cant see ms suing to get there assets back. assembler can probably explain this better than me, he commented on another thread about something like this.
