i have 2 SHVC-CPU-01 mobo's one shows a black screen pretty sure its not the fuse as the RED LED lights up on power up and the other works fine jus a RED Screen??? i think the video encoder is messed up im using brand new official SNES cables for it on a Sony Trnitron 27in TV note: my other SNES systems all display and work fine on this tv just unsure whats up with these two boards any idea's guys? maybe cap's gone bad?
im thinking its the encoder on the RED SCREEN snes as i get video audio and input all work jus a RED tint where black should be although i did move a SUPERCIC into this system but this snes had this issue way before i ever touched it to can i take the S-RGB from my dead SNES Jr and place it in this SHVC? tho idk if i will also gain S-Vid and RGB tho if i do??
I don't think the video encoders have the same pinouts between those two consoles. If your good at that stuff you could try using an alternate video encoder.
i can install another thats no issue jus curious if the S-RGB will work on the SHVC model as for the black screen issue i have on the other SNES im unsure although there the same mobo the one hveing the black screen issue has a big cap by the system fuse where as the other one with the RED tint issue does not??? edit: missed ur post your right there not compatable would using the S-ENC from another SHVC fix the RED tint?
i took the ba6592f off the black screen SNES and still get the RED tint on this snes i installed a superCIC to it for practice tht at lest works any idea's guys possibly the PPU's?
Before removing encoder, did you properly troubleshoot the console? Black screen is often caused by dirty cart connector. Edit : check the connection between PPU output and encoder input. Might be a fault between the two.
i scrapped the board the one with a black screen the one with a red tint i cant figure the issue after replaceing the encoder i think its either PPU related or maybe the cart slot any idea's? also on a side note i got my SuperCIC working and installed a IGR but the controller wont switch the region or reset the system followed mmmonkey's page for IGR for this no dice
I have a SNES which plays the games, but sections of random blocks of pixel appear, so the game appears messed up. always in the same place with each game. I have fully cleaned out the pin connector, it looks fine, even swapped it out for another, have checked over everything for continuity, and all appears to be well- really clean unit. could that be an encoder issue? I have new capacitors ready to fit too, if required. As I'm new to console repair, I hoped you may be able to offer a troubleshoot on it? thanks
You'd probably be better off starting your own thread in the repairs section, rather than digging up a thread that's about a different fault in the mods section. Does it happen on all games? What titles?
Ok, done. Yes all games, same glitches each time, my test carts are super soccer, smartball and bass masters. I've tried with my good games too (super r type, ghouls n ghosts, Zelda etc) - I had two identical models, both with video output issues, cleaned them up nice and swapped the pin connectors out. This fixed one of them. The other now does the weird extra/messed up pixel thing. So far, I have cleaned the board, replaced the fuse (it was blown when I got it) the 5v regulator and doing the caps today. I realise this may not fix the issue but it's good experience for me so I'm doing it anyway! Bless Console5 Wiki. If the pin connectors weren't like gold dust I'd just get one, but cannot find anyone with them in stock. Also kind of defeats the point of getting the console for $5. The fuse, 5v and caps were $6 already. What other common video related troubleshooting can I do. I have a multimeter now, I'm getting continuity through components to the boards, the chips etc. I am happy to des older things to test them, but if I had some guidelines and points to work through, I could start delving deeper
i know this is a old thread i started but 2 years later and this wiley old Red tint SNES is still workin with the SuperCIC also i swapped the encoder for a BA6592F and that did not fix the issue leaving only the cap's? or maybe a faulty trace left to troubleshoot also i replaced the cart connector issue has remained I also aquired another snes model 1 but this one has the sound module built into board its got the black screen issue i replaced the fuse next guess would be the cap's? as it shows no power light when switched on
It is possible you replaced the fuse and immediately blew the fuse. Check continuity on the fuse. If the fuse is still good, check your voltage from the regulator's output.
