I hope this is an OK place to make a project log.

I was cleaning my studio space 2 days ago when I stumbled upon an old Intec flip-up PS2 LCD. Can't recall exactly why I have it, and it was in about 10 pieces as if I'd planned to do something with it before. Anyway, as you can see, I got inspired and didn't get much cleaning done.

I have about 7-8 working SNES units at the moment, so I felt comfortable gutting one to make this happen. Started with foam core to get all the measurements sorted out, then tore it down and make a plywood housing. White LEDs for the marquee. An obviously custom graphic for the face of the unit. Wasn't a whole lot of hardware modding needed. I had to extend the controller port ribbon which I did with a section of SCSI ribbon and I hard-wired an S-vid connection in because I don't have an extra SNES/N64 S-vid cable to sacrifice to the project. The only other hardware mod that I want/need to do before it's 100% done is a voltage regulator so I can just run one AC adapter and split it to the LCD assembly (which requires 12V) and the SNES (10V). Anywho, here a few pics. I'll post other projects soon. I've always got a few things in progress ;)

This is a quick vid of it in action while still mocked up in foam core.

I'll get some decent pics up soon. Was so excited to get it done that I didn't get around to it :D

The snes should accept the 12v without any issue. A 7805 regulator can take 18v without issue, with some models handling like 30v (which is the first thing after the rectifier on the snes pcb).

No point adding more parts for no reason.

    Ok, thanks!

I'll snap some today. Finished up at like 3am LOL!

    Totally what inspired me ;)

They're just mounted inside the box. I was going to drill speaker holes, but after testing it with them just sitting inside, I realized there's really no need. Sounds great as is :)

@Bad Ad84 - I'm no electrical expert, and tend to get by with what info I can teach myself based on web research, so I though I might ask you since you seem to have knowledge about the subject. Can I just Y off the 12V supply and connect it to both the SNES and LCD? Is it that simple or do I need to build a circuit of some sort? The LCD has a 1.2a adapter and the SNES is 800ma. Is there any sort of amp multiplier that I need to use in order to figure out what adapter to use, or is a 12V 1.2a adapter Y'd good for the job? Thanks!

    edit: Better pics.

You'd want a 12v 2amp PSU to make sure there is enough power for both, but yes just Y that off to both

I love stuff like this, something different than making portables.

I'm so not into the giant portable scene. Don't get me wrong, some of the guys on Heck do AMAZING work, just not my thing. I'd way rather build giant, cumbersome arcade cabinets :D

Portables have really been done to death. It's nice just to have something different.

It's really close to done. I just need to finish cleaning up the wiring (which is all sorted out, they're just too long in spots and unkempt) and make a battery holder.

That Gameboy Advance Adapter is pretty fascinating. Is that an official product? Why would someone want to plug in a GBA game into a regular GB?

Your skills are awesome. Do you post on the Bacteria forum? I'm sure there'd be guys that would commission you to do stuff like this.

Thanks! Just need to finish it. So many little wires, and I'm just putting it off...

    Thank you!

    Thanks!

Nope, I made it from an old Tetris cart. I've got some progress pics of it somewhere. I'll find 'em.

It's sort of necessary to be able to plug GBA games into the modded DMG shell without having to cut the hell out of it, which I didn't want to do in order to keep it looking as close to the original as possible.

    Thank you!

I don't, but it's only because a) I have a hard enough time keeping track of all the forums that I currently post on (TCP, CAG, Racketboy, GBA temp, Ben Heck, etc.), and b) I'm so backed up with GBA mods for folks that I don't even have time for commissions at the moment. I'd love to do more one-off commission stuff once the GBA stuff dies down a bit :)

I'm sure I'll find my way over there at some point.
