I'm beginning to think that Nintendo didn't properly think this through. I want to buy a larger (46inch) screen for the living room, but the sofa is at least 7 to 8m away. My experience with my gameroom setup is that the remote already stops registering at 5m. Is anyone aware of controller range booster solution?
You could move the Wii closer to you. Seriously 7/8m? I had a Wii on a 3m projection and 4/5m was far away enough.
The range on the pointer is a joke, my sofa is probably 2-3m away from the TV and it barely registers.
Moving the Wii closer won't help. The BlueTooth range is good enough since button presses register fine, it's just the pointer part of the controller doesn't register from 8m from the screen. The only thing that would help is moving the tv or sofa closer to eachother. Neither is practical.
use a better IR source than the one provided. It's an issue of infrared light emmission and its strength. (if it's too far the controller cant read it)
I was reading some other thread where you said you were getting bluetooth interference as well. Do you live next to a power generator or something? Bluetooth's a pretty well-established technology, and it's not like Nintendo screwed up the implementation of it.
Well I suggest you put the IR detector on a movable trolly and position it so the top of it is just below the line of sight of the screen, you have over 3m of cable to play with. 8m is way too far and even 5m is pushing the absolute practical limit. Wii Sports at 5m is playable with Tennis but was a joke with Golf.
I guess this raises an interesting dilema. I know that in the USA a lot of houses are huge, mansion-like almost. In Japan the houses tend to me more compact (in Europe also). Perhaps Nintendo R&D didn't consider the issue of range to the scale of US houses.
i agree that the range is an absolute joke.. i have however found a cure for the problem.. i didnt buy a Wii!
well i for1 think the wii is fantastic, yes the graphics etc are not on par with the 360 and ps3 but for playability wish its great, ive actually got my wife into gaming, and even my mum has a go when she comes round, im even starting to loose a bit of weight because of it! but back on topic, the range isnt the best, but for my setup its ok at about 5m from the tv. however you can now get the wireless sensor bars, think they are made by nyko, which should help with your plight
It's fine for everyone I know who owns one, unless you're playing Wii in a stadium it's more than adequate. If you've got interference, I'm sorry for you, but if it's bluetooth interference you'd get exactly the same problem with a PS3. But if you're wanting the PS3 experience then a Wii won't be a substitute anyway, and vice versa.
couldn't you just put two candles on a table in front of the sofa? isn't that supposed to work? :x http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1vQFchFr_Q
I dont own a Wii, but have used/played on one a number of times in a number of settings. Having made sure that the batteries are up to spec and everything is set up correctly.. there is nothing more frustrating then finding you are having to pretty much sit on top of the TV to play it. Especially when playing in a group setting becuase that means that no one else can really see whats happening on the screen. Agreed, that a couple of times the problem may have been down to interference, but overall the range is not as good as maybe you would expect or it should be perhaps? I dont have a PS3 either, and have only seen one being played once so cant comment too much on those.
