Apparently, through a game save exploit in Zelda on the Wii, it should in theory lead to homebrew on the wii without the need for a mod chip.

Couple this with the sd reader and usb ports......:icon_bigg

....Wiiubuntu perhaps?....i like the sound of it....

With the installed user based of Wiis out there already there is probably a lot of interest in something like this. I can easily see this exploit being very popular if they don't hit any walls, and it doesn't look like they will by the nature of it.

I am absolutely going to keep my eyes on this one. I'm always weary about modding my current-gen hardware, but softmods have always seemed a little more innocent to me.

    same here

If they could port GCLinux to it, than it could be a very nice little computer. Homebrew would be nice too!

Yeah, I've experimented around with GCLinux a bit in the past, and it would be neat to see the people behind it get behind a Wiinux project of some kind. Of course GCLinux met with limited success due to a small installed user base (and as a result, small interest), but the Wii would be a different story.

I remember not too long ago tmbinc found a few extra registers that were previously unknown for accessing GC memory card data... these registers were found in code on the GC Service Disc. Not sure if anything ever came of it, but it could sure be put to use on the Wii.

the exploit has been released, just a proof of concept that it has been done, the elf loader will be released soon as they said, I have tested it personally and works ( PAL ZELDA AND PAL WII )
