I know its a really stripped version (no online) of an already stripped Wii (No GC Backwards compatible, No Component out)... But at $99 it's fairly tempting. Anyone going to bite on one?
No, for all the reasons you listed above. At the very least the console should have component out. It does look cool though.
I can get a regular, used Wii for 69$ at my local Gamestop. Why on Earth would I even consider this baby's-first-console?
I believe NO ONE gonna buy this piece of junk once released imho! It's was just a waste of investment to begin with & Seriously No Wifi?! I mean stripping down the Gamecube backwards compatible is fair enough but Wifi? Really Nintendo?! Just why not add the ability to let users add downloaded Wiiware and/or Virtual Console to the console via transferable? I guess :/ just a pointless idea to begin with instead of doing Price cuts like everyone else does! lol well it's gonna end up like the PSPGo anyways oh well
Remember back in 2006 when everybody called the Wii '2 GCs duck-taped together'? Nintendo finally listened to consumers. Unfortunately, they listened to the wrong ones.
I gotta say it's kinda odd to bundle a popular online game with a console that has no online; the main console also looks like a butchered attempt at making a sleeker Virtual Boy redesign. The red WiiMote+Nunchuck are sexy, but assuming they're only available with this bundle, it's not worth the $100 for me (especially if the WiiMote doesn't have WiiMotion+). Also, here's a more detailed list of what's being nixed: 1. No Online 2. No Component Output 3. No GameCube compatibility (nor controller input) 4. No SD Card Slot 5. Unable to Transfer Saves.
This is pointless for me. I mainly use my Wii for Gamecube games, and I wouldn't be able to tolerate using anything short of component output. If it had RGB output instead, then it might be worth it, but I doubt that.
I'm pretty sure that original NTSC Wii can be region-changed into PAL Wii and S-Video output will be RGB.
I can see that, given that the whole top of a Wii is taken up with GC ports, and BC is really only important earlier in a console's lifespan, but it's the lack of internet, especially because Nintendo apparently deliberately made it not work online http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/df-hardware-nintendo-wii-mini-review, that I don't get. If it makes you feel any better, it looks like the controller has Motion+. I was thinking about getting it when it was a Canadian exclusive, for the exclusive factor, but I'll wait till it's in the bargain bin before I bite now.
It looks like I'm only person on this forum to be excited to buy this lol. Yup you are correct it does have Motion+. Starting to calculate the cost in my head. Even before the bundle hits the bargin bins I feel it's a fairly decent deal. It's basically worth it in the sum of it's parts. Mario Kart Wii is $35 new on the low end Motion+ Controller is $35 new on the low end OEM Nunchuck $10 on low end So in the end $100 MSRP total - $80 for the above = the Wii Mini is actually $20 (+ the cables and sensor).
I'll buy it for the simple fact that I love the color scheme and I collect all systems. Plus, SOMEONE will buy it and find out it doesn't have Wifi and sell it on Craigslist for cheaper and I'll swipe that shit up.
