Looks good!!!! But is from SPONG http://news.spong.com/article/10526 Artist's Impression of a Portable GameCube And for once, it looks like it's all true. Breaking news in the US, all of which was pulled after being made public earlier today, posits definite launch dates, price and further launch details on Nintendo's Wii, without doubt the most secretive emerging console in videogaming's short history. Price has been set at $229, somewhat higher than many had hoped and a price no doubt inflated by Nintendo on the back of Sony's $600 PlayStation 3 demand. A cynical, if totally expected, move from Nintendo which we predict will be turning a profit on every hardware unit from day one on sale. Two launch dates (territory unspecified) were offered - November 2 and November 12. It appears third-parties are working to two different sets of Nintendo-issued guidelines. At time of going to press, we have no idea which is the most recently issued. Two colour options will be available day one, black and white. Other colours will follow during phase two of launch, probably after four months of general Wii release. According to IGN, an outlet that had published the mass leak only to pull it, presumably at Nintendo's request: "Nintendo has allegedly bumped production of Wii hardware to 5.5 million units by the end of the year, a significant upgrade to previous numbers. The jump is purportedly based on the positive reaction to Wii from press and industry analysts at E3 2006. From IGN as well http://wii.ign.com/articles/723/723894p1.html August 7, 2006 - With only a few months left before the release of Nintendo's new generation console, every publisher, developer and hardware manufacturer seems to have a friend of a friend who knows something about Wii's release date and price point. Over the last week, IGN has been able to compile the juiciest rumors for your reading pleasure. Please keep in mind that Nintendo has yet to announce an official release date or price point for its new system and as such, everything below should be considered with a grain of salt. Microsoft's Xbox 360 console is out and Sony announced a release date for PlayStation 3 months ago. So the big question is, when will Wii launch? The only official answer from Nintendo is sometime before the Thanksgiving holiday in America. But sources -- both on the hardware and development side -- argue that the console will be hitting much sooner. A number of big-name publishers are set to release their Wii games in mid-to-late October, which suggests that a system debut could not be that far off. And several insiders have told IGN that November 2 could, in fact, be the big day. Thing is, not all of our contacts are in agreement on the date. Some have suggested that November 12 could, instead, be Wii's launch date. Regardless, though, it seems that Wii fans can look forward to their console sooner rather than later. Sources suggest that Wii will launch with a $229 price tag and will be available in both black and white. Nintendo has allegedly bumped production of Wii hardware to more than five million units by the end of the year, a significant upgrade to previous numbers. The jump is purportedly based on the positive reaction to Wii from press and industry analysts at E3 2006. The console is unlikely to be region-free, although the lock is unrelated to hardware; a firmware update could theoretically allow gamers to play import software. We presented this information to Nintendo of America for response, but a spokesperson for the company said that it does not comment on rumors and speculation. Some more, including the Brazilian http://www.2old2play.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=401 How long can Nintendo hold a secret? by CodeMonkey Rumors on Wii pricing, launch dates, console coloring and other information scatters the Internet. Is any of it correct? Many "rumors" come from 3rd party developers. News sites continue to try to find dates for the Wii launch and as much details as possible. Hardware specificiations alter weekly and prices move from $200 USD to $250 USD. Is any of this correct? And why do we care? Lets face it, we care. Why? Because we don't know the real answer and humans, by nature, are curious little mammals that want to know everything. The highest priority of knowledge is that which we know exists but we just do not have control over yet. The Wii is no different. IGN posted multiple estimations on prices, dates, and features, and continually get removed and reposted with less information. Is this because of "legal reasons" as they state -or- is it because they find that some details are just too fuzzy to post real values for? What is the latest information that we've heard on the Net? The Wii cost will be $229 USD, have a black console version and a white console version (woah, like the PSP?) and Nintendo expects more then 5 million units to be available, worldwide, by the end of this year. Nintendo has publically stated that these final details will not be available until September 2006. Why so secret? Nintendo is smart, if they give dates now and those dates change (even by a day) people will "ooh" and "ahhh" about the "slip" and probably make more false Internet rumors than we see today. If the dates are not finalized by the "high ups" at Nintendo it would be wise for them to not say anything publically. Even color selection, hardware specifications and other details are best kept secret because it helps keep the competition wondering and builds the huge Internet rumor mill about Nintendo. Are these rumors good? You bet! People continue to throw around keywords like "Wii," "revolution" and "Nintendo." It is free marketing and all gamers have those words in their head, fanboys or not, because of these unknown details. Nintendo doesn't have to pay a dime to keep their name in the spotlight - all they have to do is shut their mouths. But, how long can all their partners and third parties do the same? There are other non-Nintendo folks that have this hardware and a good deal of details. All it takes is a developer to leak information and another developer in another studio confirm the details with their own account and the news sites will go crazy with Wii-based information. Can Nintendo hold the secrets until September or will enough leaks corroborate these rumors? A note about Brazilian Wii prices. The prices have been estimated at $640 USD to $690 USD. This is due to a high import tax and a rampid piracy issue in Brazil. Interesting data point: The Nintendo DS sells for $367.00 USD in Brazil. So, as you can see, these Brazilian US dollar conversions are high for a reason - and do not equate in any real way to the Wii (USD) costs in America. I do wish they would bloody hurry up!!!!
I don't think shouting a price for a Wii package is very informative without specification of its contents. If the Wii comes with only one Wiimote you have to consider the total costs. Think about it: to enjoy the Wii the proper way you'd need at least one extra Wiimote, at least two classic controllers, at least one gun extension, a better-than-composite-video-cable, etc. Getting the needed peripherals will get the setup price of the Wii much closer to the PS3 launch tag. Granted the PS3 will likely come with only one controller too, but at least you can use the existing PS1/PS2 controllers. Although the Wii can be used with GC controllers, it won't help with playing games that are meant to be played with Wiimote features.
Rubbish, Just don't A)charge me extra for crap I don't need (e.g. I bought a PS2 with one controller. If a mate comes round and wants to play, He will likely have his own) B)Rip me off for accessories SO I can get what I want, and nothing more.£25 for a controller is mad, but so is £20 extra on a consoles price if I don't want the controller.
And this is different from any other console how..? Of course if you want decent quality video output you'll need to splash on a decent cable (though a Wii RGB cable is unlikely to be as costly as a high-def cable for other consoles). If you want to use a light gun game you might not even need a gun since the Wiimote has targetting already. You can use Gamecube pads, I've got a bunch of them already. So you're complaining because you'll have to buy another Wiimote? As compared to £425 base for a PS3+whatever peripherals I'm going to guess I'd still be saving some cash...
That's my avatar and they mention Brazil..man, I'm lucky Nintendo finally got back here after Gradiente(from Nes to Gamecube releases) cancelled their deal. Amazingly enough, prices here are way above reality to foreigners and yet people play/buy lots og VG stuff. Go figure.... Damn..just now I've found this thread, should've replied in there http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10825
On the Toys R Us Australia web site http://www.toysrus.com.au/site/default.htm Pre-Order Nintendo Wii With a neat compact design combined with state-of-the-art processing technologies the Nintendo Wii takes interactive gaming to a whole new level. Reserve your Nintendo Wii today with a $50 deposit and collect one free game for your console at launch. Just a stab in the dark or do you think they now something? No dates/prices etc but no-one reputable I know in the UK is taking pre-orders!
With the fiasco that happened with the 360 preorders, no one wants to take preorders for the Wii or PS3.
Last I saw, you can't use your PSX or PS2 controllers with the PS3, atleast not without some after market adapter. All I ever saw on the PS3 were 4 Mini-Usb connectors that you can use to connect to the controllers. I don't recall seeing any PS1/PS2 style memory card slot (there's gotta be one somewhere.. right..? Or maybe you save them to your new lame MSDUO Pro sticks) or controller port. About the Wii, I don't see why most gamers would need more than 1 Wiimote. I mean any game I'd play multiplayer would probably use GameCube controllers which I have 2 of still. That portable GameCube looks awesome. Certainly would blow away the PSP.
Screw multiplayer. Here are a few uses for two remotes: 1) Double whip action with a game like Castlevania. 2) Dual gun shooting for just about any kind of game.:rambo: 3) Boxing. 4) Dual lightsaber wielding.
how tedious would snapping the Wiimote back and forth in whip-like motion be, everytime you needed to take down an enemy in Castlevania? very effing tedious is the answer. very tedious indeed. I hope games companies make sensible use of the controller.
mmmmh i'm disappointed. i won't pay 230 euro or 260 euro (since nintendo is going to steal from eurogamers) for a wii, to wich i have to add gamecubes pads that are almost impossible to get by in italy now and that are quite costy and a rgb cable to substitute sucky AV ones that will be for certain in the box (even if in europe 90% of people have a tv set with RGB scart...). Add to that the fact that it won't be region free it's REALLY disappointing, i hope conversion will be pal friendly at least... I'm starting to get colder and colder torward the wii and nintendo's mistery attitude is not in my taste. my money are starting to return from my hands to my wallet Come nintendo, make me willing to by wii again! say the prices of games, make then cheap, or give with each console the chance to dl some games for free! And stop being misterious! and: I hate rumors and can't stand a company letting them out in purpouse. and.. who ares those people throwing in they keyboards those words? i stopped searching for such words when nintendo started being misteryous and sending just rumors out, people want to print wii and find INFORMATIONs (or better at least i do)
I was just calculating Wii+RGB+Games yesterday and the figures sum up to half a K almost. Still cheaper than getting a Ps3 nevertheless, which feels alright. Having said RGB, since nintendo (I m certain) is not going to release a D-Sub/RGBHV version of their cable, I ll have to either mod the damn cable myself or buy it ready. In both cases my complex branching RGB/StandardAV-Audio setup with a VGA switch and a VGA box I set up for my cube is going to hell. I ll probably need a second VGA switch just for the Wii and a clever way to switch audio back and forth from my devices. Damn them, I hope they would have used GameCube's EDTV cable
