    Alright, so heres the deal.

Had my Wii since launch, but for the past 4 months (give or take) I haven't been using it. So earlier yesterday I plugged the cute little bastard in and the console was acting like it was new, asking me to set it up (Screen size, console nickname, country, time, sensor bar, you know...). But before I could even finish setting it up, the screen turns black with the message,
"The system files are corrupted. Please refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
So I turn it off, and turn it back on, this time just pressing the confirm button in the bottom right as fast as I can and trying to set up the console nickname before the error message comes up. I succeed, but just barely.
Now when I start it up, it goes to the Health and Safety warning where you gotta press A, but after I do, the error message pops up instantly.
And yes, my Wii was softmodded, meaning the Warranty is void for any send in repairs.

Any Ideas? :crying: I hope im not sitting with a cute paper weight. :banghead:

    Update (That was fast)
I searched online and found that the Wii has a "Maintenance Mode" that you can activate by holding A, + and -
And to my surprise it actually made my console start up. I instantly went to my Saved game files backed them up onto my SD card, then decided to format the system memory. It finishes up and shuts down, and when I restart it its back to the same problem. Set up the console before the same error message pops up, but now that its formatted atleast all of the Softmod files are gone. So damn, I looked up if I could repair it on Nintendo.com, entered in the Serial Number, but it says this...
"Unfortunately, we are not able to determine the warranty status of your Wii console. On some occasions, the Nintendo product Serial Number may not have been recorded at the point of sale, and therefore is not in our system."
So I guess ill call them up tomorrow, but I highly doubt my console is in warranty.
How long is the Wii warranty anyway? =]

The wii really seems prone to corrupted software errors. I installed a bad channel once and it wouldn't boot past the warning screen since one bad channel will cause the whole system not to boot.

Did you try reinstalling the firmware? I know you soft modded yours but I think the last resort is to reinstall official firmware. Wii games are pretty cheap now anyways with galaxy and brawl the only ones still at full price.

Basically its doing the manual update to official firmware. Another option is download off the net one of the hacked firmware updates and use that. That will keep your wii soft modded but because its a hacked firmware you could risk the chance of bricking it entirely.

I think the best course of action, since your getting such a fatal system error, is to just go with the official firmware update and hope it solves it.

I agree with the suggestion to upgrade to the latest firmware (4.2). Then I would use the Hackmii installer to install bootmii and the Homebrew Channel.

Did it perhaps update itself when you turned it on?

Can you still boot into maintenance mode? If so try booting into maintenance mode and use the bootmii installer to get homebrewchannel installed.
From the HBC you can use WAD installer to install the 4.2 firmware (there are a few guides online explaining how and where to get the files).
It would be better and safer to install via WAD manager then through the official Nintendo updater since its buggy and likes to brick random Wii's.
You wont loose any official or "unofficial" funcionality in 4.2 so you shouldnt be afraid to upgrade.

Worst case scenario would be a bad block on the NAND...

As long as you can get into the HBC it should be fairly easy to unbrick your Wii

This crossed my mind, but I doubt it. It was never even connected for awhile.

If you read my post, you would see that yes, I can still boot into Maintenance Mode.
But thankyou for all of the advice, I will definitely update to 4.2 using that method!
