Anyone seen these yet? My local Target and Best Buy stores have just gotten them in. You get to see the console (man it's much bigger than I expected) and try out the controller. So far, it's all video demos of games except for the new RAYMAN game --- that one is actually playable. As far as gameplay, the RAYMAN game is your typical side scroller which could easily pass for a current WII or Xbox 360 arcade game. But they've tacked on mandatory touch screen segments that injects elements of iPad and Surface style gaming. The controller is quite large, but light and hollow feeling. Screen is large and clear. The L/R triggers have a nice feel to them, but the DPad and ABXY buttons look and feel just like those on a Wii Classic Controller. From a comfort standpoint, the controller is ok but the touch screen requires you to take your hands off the d-pad or triggers to manipulate correctly. At this point, I'm still not sold on the whole concept yet. I'd like to see and play some of the other titles, but for now the demo kiosks are pretty limited. Anyone else seen and sampled the kiosk yet? Thoughts?
This is the first time I really couldn't give a shit about a new console. Even the PS3 had me giving some interest but the Wii-U.......... I don't see it as anything but a Wii with a tablet controller which is what it basically is. dated hardware with a gimmick. right, I'd better run and hide now before I get flamed.....nthego:
i said many times too i think it's just a plain stupid gimmick. I guess we should order a truckload of those extinguishers
I played the Wii U the other night at a Best Buy. I didn't think it was anything special either. I do agree it is dated hardware, But did you expect anything else from Nintendo? I mean they make profit on every single piece of hardware they sell. Now my 3yr old loved it, But she loves every tablet. Well I own one? Yes like most people, Ill buy one for Nintendo games and the exclusives. But I am not paying full price for this hardware.
I don't hate Nintendo, I hate what Nintendo has become. I'm more excited about getting an N64/Famicom/NES/SNES/SFC than I am about any next gen hardware. Fact- I have never ever even on an Emulator played Mario 64
I'd have to agree with you Yakumo. Normally, new consoles always get me excited. Seeing them in person for the first time always leads to pangs of "I want it!". I can't say that the Wii U has that effect on me...it really truly feels and looks like a cheap toy to me. Maybe I'm getting old. Maybe I'm getting burned out on having accessibility to games on my PC, Xbox and Windows Phone on demand. Who knows, but I really don't see myself standing in line for a Wii U
I never had an N64 simple as that. And Emulating the N64 is a bitch, yeah the games run just fine but no controller config works.
The only time I playaed Mario 64 was when it was on display in a Toys R Us. And even then just for a minute as there was also a Saturn with Nights that looked much more interesting. Not excited about the WiiU, but damn does ZombieU look fun.
The emulator does all the work for you so I'm currently unaware of how hard it is on the user to perform this "emulating". I've never finished SM64. Only owned SM64DS and SM64 Shindou. I might stop by Best Buy to see how this thing plays but I probably won't be buying one.
I mean It's impossible to get a decent configuration with a PS2 controller for the N64 on an emulator. Gamecube wasn't the great with it either. Hence why I'm getting the real deal soon.
Yet to get the kiosks in Australia, I don't see myself getting one right away though I hear about the Japanese pre-ordering like mad...
I noticed that all the nunchuk and Wiimote peripherals in stores are now also being reboxed in blue "Wii U" packaging. Apparently they're exactly the same (and even compatible) as the old Wii.
